1996 Corvette LT4
Specs: 5.7 Litre V8, 10.8:1 compression ratio, 6-speed manual transmission, 3.45 rear axle ratio
*Update*
01-19-03: Installed 5" LCD TV screen, hope to run NAV and an OBD-2 diagnostic program on it soon. (Or watch The Simpsons while I drive...)
Last year before the redesign of the Corvette for 1997. To prevent lagging sales of the final model year, Corvette engineers were given free reign to "soup-up" the LT1 small block. The result was the LT4... Full roller hydraulic cam system made by Crane, with 1.6:1 roller rockers, the only time ever installed from the factory with this ratio. Ported heads, a more aggressive cam profile, 4-bolt mains, and hollow valve stems were other improvements. The factory rated this engine at 330 HP and 340 LB/FT, but with only minor mods, my car shows 355 RWHP, or 417 flywheel HP, and 371 RW LB/FT, or 437 at the flywheel... good enough for a (very) traction limited 13.3@106 on a warm day.
Expect ~12.7@108-110 with slicks in cooler weather, and a bit o' practice.
Mods include:
Performance: Hurst short shift kit, rear mufflers eliminated, K&N filter, high-flow airbox, rerouting of coolant around throttle body, and more to come...
Other: Valentine One Radar Locator hard-wired with remote display behind instrument cluster glass
Soon: high flow exhaust - long tube headers, no cats, X-pipe
