VQ35DE Engine Build-up Page
In preparation for my engine build up, i've went ahead and purchased Subaru JDM STI Pink injectors. They are similar to, if not the same as Power Enterprise 510CC injectors, minus two collars.
for comparison, here are my PE 380CC injectors
STI, OEM, PE380cc
What my engine builder Howard @ Technosquare has told me, these are direct drop in to the VQ35DE and uses the same harnesses, but i will have to remove pieces from the PE380CC injectors to utilize them.. Thats fine, since PE charges over $150each 510CC injector, while i picked up 6 of the JDM STI injectors for just $525 shipped. You can find them in lots of four USED on the NASIOC.com (subaru owner's club) for $200-250shipped.. Damn good deal since they're basically re-badged Denso injectors anyway. If you look closely, its the rubber spacer at the bottom of the injector, and the aluminum collar that portion that goes next to the fuel rail. I am told that the flow pattern is the same, and will be direct drop.. hopefully Howard is right. ;)
Next up:
1. order my twin plate Flywheel & Clutch from OS Giken,
2. order my cast exhaust manifolds from PE
3. build the water cool lines for my IHI turbos
4. start the tear down.

On November 15:
with the stock PE pipe with the MAF, the voltage gets pegged quickly with high boost. we put the PE pipe with the maf on the flow bench and measured the MAF voltage from 10->400 CFM, where it pegs out at 4.7+V.. the PE1420s have a max CFM rate of around 500... so the 400 definately won't cut it...
next we went to a couple of varying diameter pipes that replace the MAF housing, and we think we have a solution that won't peg the MAF voltage.. w/o using a voltage clamp... but its kinda tricky since there are only so many hose couplers you can use for varying diameter piping, less custom made ones..
the car is SUPER quiet with the Greddy Evo TT exhaust (yay!) and the clutch pedal feels stock, and noise from the Cusco twin plate carbon carbon is just a little louder than stock.. revs faster than stock for sure... i <3 integrated flywheels...
i can't wait for the dyno testing to be completed.. woot.. we'll probably offer this piping kit as an bolt-on upgrade to those with the PE tt kit if they want to boost higher than 8psi..
so far the larger pipes we're using still clear the factory and the cusco strut bars...
On Nov 16:
WOOTTTT...scaling of the MAF voltage is complete.. @ start, idle, mid range throttle (everything in between) and WOT. i.e no hesitations..... i been driving the car around a little today.. @9psi.. YESSS... man. feels good to drive the car again..the Greddy evott exhaust is very respectable sounding.. i was used to the RST-GT2 grunt, but i'm starting to like the quietness of the EVOTT..we're having trouble boosting higher than 9 (EVC5 issue??) we think it might be my stock cats or wastegate springs.. or something else... either way, im still glad the car is now stable and not dying or throwing CELs. the Cusco clutch.. when cold is very easy to drive, but as soon as it heats up...the shifts have to be much quicker ? i guess this is characteristic of a dual carbon? REVs really fast. which i like, but i have to get used to it.. injectors are working great. so for all you cheapos out there: JDM STI pinkies are a good option if u want to 550ccs...the throttle piping we made, Tadashi told me is good up to 1000CC injectors. haha. i doubt i'll ever want to go that high..
next up: new wastegate springs for 1bar boost love, slice n dice the ypipe to add a flex portions and maybe incorporate high-flow cats into the design?...
On Nov 17:
Mwuahahhaah. fixed my boost problem: it was the stock cats?! arrrg.
ok. i am maxed out on the stock wastegate springs at 11.5psi.... but damn. car is now fast... woot..
my #5 wastegate springs arrived this afternoon, but i was plagued with the infamous dead-window-motor... which i have to fix now.. but yea.. hehehe. the new springs will go on and then my final tune for 1bar..
Dec 1:
DOH... my fuel is maxxed out.. hm... i think it might be my prototype fuel pump.. just ordered a new walboro 255 HP to check to see if thats it.. my Fuel pressure is dropping at up redline so my AFR is going up to 11.8 @ >15psi ...
Dec 20:
new Walboro high pressure pump installed, fuel lines bored out, now i'm rich again! woot. so hopefully this will get me to 550! :)
