I am I have to confess new to car audio, so my initial goal was to install a nice sound system that would not strain the cash flow, and yet get a good start for my future project, dare I say, the ultimate sound system? All speakers, subs, subbox, head unit and one amp were purchased at crutchfield,to whose sales representatives many many thx. My gear started with the purchase of four entry level speakers (5x7 kenwood kfc577c) that replaced the worn out factory speakers, and it turns out that they are quite good for entry level.
Then ofcourse I realized I need somewhat more bass in the car, that is when I got 2 JBL gt1000 subwoofers(260 rms each) + a Profile California Series 440sx (50x4 or 150x2 rms).
The combination of factory cassette + subwoofers and amp stood out immediatley, this time with too much bass in contrast to the overall sound, so some changes had to be done soon I realised.
I had different head units in mind, most of all I needed an affordable source unit that had changer capabilites, a cd player preferably, and a good tuner, and since I had subwoofers already, it had to be with 3 preamp outputs with a sub control for quick settings from the driver's seat.
The answer is RockFord Fosgate RFX 8220.

Just a Taurus!(with a nice sound system)
RockFord Fosgate RFX8220 providing the source via 2.4 volt preamp outputs. Not bad for entry level, ;)
JBL GT1000 (260rms each) and the 440sx profile powering 4 Kenwood
5x7s@ 33 watts rms.
Kenwood KAC848 (50x4 or 150x2 rms)amp bridged to push the subs, this shot taken from inside the car the backseat down looking into the trunk.
Unfortunately The tweeters on top are still factory, I am planning to replace both the front 5x7s + the tweeters with Infinity Reference 5 1/4 inch + tweeter components(that should be something)as for now, you can't even tell that these tweeters are factory.
Here are the second pair of Kenwood 5x7s.
One more pic from the driver side.
This is my new pioneer tweeter set Ts T15.(40 Rms or 120 peak)Watts.
My latest upgrade a monster cap to feed both amps.
My latest upgrade, Sony XM 2252 HXR 225watts rmsx2 or 600watts rmsx1@4ohms and 300x2 rms or 650x1 rms@2ohms
Another pick of the sony
An even closer pic of the pioneer tweets.
Also an upgrade from the GT1000 to GT1041 4ohms. 275 watts rms or 1100 peak.
Now I can say that I am ready for an SPL test, soon my kenwood would be running the speakers and a dry cell battery is on its way, what would you think 130 db is possible? ;)
JL 12 W 3 and the kenwood amp now running the mids and highs

Better pic of Sony amp
All wiring from StreetWires, 4 gauge from the battery to the distribution block, and 8 gauge from the distribution block to the amps. I intend to swap the amps, where the kenwood would power all speakers, and install a 2 channel or mono amp for the subs as I realise it would definately be more efficient, also since the JBLs can handle 110 more watts. Overall I am pleased with where I'm heading, I would love to enter a competition just for the evaluation factor. But that would only be better after all the adjustments were acomplished. ***********************************
Latest upgrades include Kenwood amp now pushing mids and highs to Infinity KAPPA 51/4 upfront and pioneer 6 by 8 3 ways in the back, an MTX 2300 supplys the JLs with a whooping 950 watts RMS, yes RMS@14.4 thats about 475 watts RMS per sub. THIS REALLY HITS! pictures to be posted soon.
Thank you Sound Domain for the awesome opportunity, ;)
