Wiring MSD 6A:

Red (thick wire) = 12V (+)
Black (thick wire) = Chassis Ground (-)

Orange wire (+) = Coil (+)
Black wire (-) = Coil (-)

Red wire (+) = Brown wire (ECU)
White wire (-) = White wire (ECU)

The MSD box is connected to the Intake Coil ONLY.... Exhaust Coil is left in stock configuration.

First Mod was a Gibson Stainless steel muffler and custom tubing. I added an MSD 6A Ignition and Optima Yellow top

Here are my new Thorleys and also the old stock ones.

In order to remove the stock manifold I had to cut the pipe. The Thorleys have a straighter back than the stock manifold.

I used 2.5" pipes from collector, it sits lower than stock due to the transmission brace being in the way and the collector location and angle from the headers.

I relocated the O2 sensor to the lower part of the headers where all the pipes come together. Result was better throttle and better gas milage.

New exhaust

New mandrel bent pipe using 2-1/4" pipe and new tip. I regained some of the lost low end from the 2.5", the top end remained the same.

Weber 32/36 DGAV carb.

Adapter info.

http://www.carburetion.com/Weber/adaptors.htm

Z24 Carb model (Non Z24i) = 99004.336
Z20 and Z22 (older 720's) = 99004.333

The carb adapter will only bolt on to a carb model Z24 intake manifold. To make it work on a Z24i you will need a carb Z24 intake.

Tunning info.

Removed old intake and installed new intake with all the plugs.

After weber install, I was able to go past the 105 mark with ease but gas milage is really low (about 10 mpg). Before and after whiteface guages.

nis720's 1986 Nissan Pickup nis720's 1986 Nissan Pickup
I blew the 2nd head gasket at 212K miles (First one at 190K miles) so I decided to replace the whole engine. They gave my the wrong head on the long block so I had to take it back.

After having som problems with the carb I took it all apart and found some trouble areas.... the lower primary shaft had alot of play in it so I fixed it. I hand polished the parts I could.

Z24 is no more... I've blown one too many head gaskets. It's help up pretty good considering the kind of driving I do and hauling my quad around.
