projectsleeper's 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit All hot hatch lovers, say hello to daddy. This car started the "hot hatch" phrase and the craze in America! Right now it can use alot of cosmetic and performance upgrades. One must be patient... I see the light at the end of the tunnel!! I have recently added an autotech g-grind cam. I no longer have headers due to their sucky design they started to leak. Pacesetter headers suck! Pictures will come soon.
projectsleeper's 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit I'm ready for some more rims
projectsleeper's 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit Took the back seat out... 30lbs gone....took the bumpers off...40lbs gone....spare tire out...30lbs gone.
projectsleeper's 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit 1.8l SOHC 8v counter flow 1781cc 8.5:1 ....how much did I pay for this car??? $174!!! That's german made for ya!
projectsleeper's 1984 Volkswagen RabbitCurrently, I am removing the a/c, which should eliminate more weight. Sort of a gas drinking GTI. Notice the "Germany" on the head...I like that.
projectsleeper's 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit Here's a terrible shot of the collector portion of my old Pacesetter headers. All the black paint burned off these things the second after they were in use. I would advise getting the stock 4-2-1 setup. It's more streetable, and you retain torque while gaining hp.
projectsleeper's 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit Pacesetter did a terrible job designing these things. You used to be able to hear them rattling against the firewall.
projectsleeper's 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit Another terrible shot, this time of the part that was bolted to the head. Counter flow JH head makes it almost impossible to see the headers because they are directly under the intake manifold...see?
projectsleeper's 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit The younggun himself!
projectsleeper's 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit Bama boi....what??!!
projectsleeper's 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit I look whooped
projectsleeper's 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit Huntsville, Al...You know I gotta rep my city!
projectsleeper's 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit Another city shot

Yo, it's so funny how cats look over at my car and give that look like....is that a racer or is that some black dude driving a beat up car? I have a lot of pride for my car but at the same time I realize that at this point it isn't inclined in beauty. I've learned way too often that beauty doesn't mean crap when it comes to racing, so I will be doing performance first. Once I'm finished with the performance of my baby then I'll worry about making her sexy.....until then....say yucky!!!!

As far as light to light battles, I either smashed or was neck up with the following confrontations:
90's something Chevy malibu (6 cyl)
90's something 929 (6 cyl I guess)
90's something Honda Accord (had vtec)
90's something Honda Civic coup (?)
two 90's something Saturns (16v)

Oh, and by the way.....I'm a realist therefore this list is real...thanx. Haters, bite yourselves!!!

You still driving/tuning this thing? I love the no-bumper look.....do you get hassled by the Man a lot? I say get a Techtonics downpipe and factory dual-outlet manifold, then shave the head and throw in a 276 or bigger cam. Shim the fuel distributor to bump the system pressure a bit. Then your bunny will scream.

How do you like that G Grind cam? Did it make a big difference, or would you get a more aggressive Cam? As for the header situation, check out www.techtonicstuning.com they have some Bosal street headers that are designed much better... Or you might even want to get a stock dual outlet manifold and downpipe from an earlier year Rabbit... Even a stock dual outlet setup is good for about 5 horsepower over the single outlet one. I like how you took out a lot of the interior out of the car, on mine I took it a step further and removed all the carpeting, and the entire dashboard. You'd be amazed at how much dirt is in the car. I dont have any pics of my car yet, but check out my Jetta and let me know what you think. Mike

Awesome GTI. Looks like it has a ton of potential, keep up the good work. I just bought a 83 GTI that looks exactly like yours. I bought a 95 Jetta engine for it, and am prepping the 2.0 Liter block so that I can install it under the GTI Head. Good luck with your car, let me know when you update. Mike

Very nice Rabbit! It's good to see that you're paying attention to the engine first, and not going for exterior mods (you fool more people that way :-P). One thing you might want to consider though is going for the dual round headlights like on some of the GTI's. Anyways, check out my 94 Jetta if you want, I don't have any pics, but I'll get some up soon. Good luck with future mods!
