The other day I checked the results of my awsome poll, and i was surprised to see 5% of you chose the riced out civic as my next car; I really hope you were joking.....

Well i've kind of decided on keeping the car and restoring it some, but still keeping it almost 100% origianl. Thinking about repainting it, fixing a small tear in the seat and driving it alot. Eventually I'd like to upgrade, but its in such immaculate condition that I want to drive it for a least another summer.

Info

This is my 1965 Chevrolet Corvair 500 Coupe. This was the base car; and I mean base. It doesn't have a single factory option in it. 3 speed on the floor, not synched in first (you have to stop to shift into first), no AC, and most unfortunately...it has the base 95 hp. single barrel, single Rochester carb, air cooled, "pancake 6". I just got the car and hope to start restoration and mods as soon as possible. The car has almost no rust, and only 55k on the clock. Unfortunately the odometer doesn't work anymore, so the car is TMU. The odometer reads 57,000 and I've driven it less than 100 miles. Regardless, the car is in great condition. Amazingly the owners manual and almost all the previous owners registrations were left in the glovebox. The bag that the owners manual comes in was there, even with the sticker that reminded the owner to keep proper tire inflation. The owners manual is in pristine condition so if you would like to see some particular page, or the manual in general, i could scan it and post it later. I havn't quite decided what modifications i would do to it, but 1 or 3 more carburetors is something I'd like to do. It isn't much to look at now, but it will be. The car is now in better storage. Eventually I'd like a Corsa with the 4 speed, the 4 carbs and maybe the ragtop. Hmm, first thing I'd do to it might be a vanity plate that says "NADER65". We'll see.

Dont act disappointes with the 95hp 3 speed....there arent that many out there and in my opinion the 95hp breathes the best at 0 to 55 mph og all the corvair engines. By that I mean its most likely the fastest 0 to 55 of all the corvair engines. You are aware that the 180 hp turbo engine uses the 95hp heads? The three speed has a very good torque/acceleration curve for transmitting power to the wheels. I am currently preparing a 69 500 with a 95hp 3 speed to use as an autocross car for these very reasons. Keep the 500 as it is....enjoy the comfort of the bench seat....it looks to be in good shape....enjoy it! If u want a Corsa or Monza there are lots out there for cheap...trust me I know

I love this corvair. I've always thought that the 500's were pretty cool with the bench seat in front. What I think you should do is drop a 110 or 140 in it, and get a mean looking paint job with some rally stripes. Then paint the inside metal the same color as the body, but that is if you do it. Love it though! Check out my Corvair!

Sweet looking ride. I would be hesitant in making any permanent changes to your car. A lot of 500's have been cannibalized to restore Corsa's and even Monza's. The result is that there are very few 500's left, and their value is increasing. The fact that it has no options, I think makes it even more valuable. Check out my 65 Crown V8 when you get a chance.
