UPDATE #3 Finally had a break in the weather so I could photograph all progress since the repaint in October. Page 7 check it out.
UPDATE #2: I made custom mounting brackets for the carbon fiber hood and mounted the hood, I really like how it looks. Let me know your opinions. Thanks for showing interest in my passion.
UPDATE: I don't know why I decided to do this but, I stripped the entire car down to bare metal and reapplied all my body work. The Car is now painted and I think the pictures tell the rest of the story. Thanks for looking, sorry for such a delay.
PAGE 6 is the painted car.
Hi my name is Andy, I am 19 years old and, since before I can remember, I have loved cars; I am a driver, plain and simple, nothing makes me happier. I also take pride in doing my own work. This car will never see the shop, all mechanical, body and paint work will be done myself.
This is my oldest endeavor: A 1973 Datsun 240z. My main goal with this car is to shed a lot of weight making it weigh in under 2000 pounds and of course adding as much horsepower as possible, without sacrificing it's performance in the corners. This is still an ongoing project, and the pictures illustrate my most recent work and goals for the future. Some of the modifications to the Z are as follows:
L24 engine block: rebuilt
Early E31 Head port and polished
Crane High Performance 3/4 cam
UNILITE electronic Distributor
Crane Fireball Street coil
Crane Fireball XR3000 electronic ignition kit
Monza Exhaust System
MSA Headers
Iridium Spark Plugs
I am still running the Dual SU carburetor setup because they are actually running correctly with the performance cam. As soon as they start to go though, I am going to upgrade to the triple mikuni setup.
The interior has been stripped to save weight, and to paint the floor to prevent rust. (New interior will be here this week. Good bye $600...)
Lightweight racing seats will replace the terrible cracked and heavy existing seats.
I also have done some custom interior work like painting and clearing the dashboard and center console a dark blue, A black dash cover will be added to cover half the dash for contrast. That will be here with my interior later this week.
Future Modifications:
Repaint (Winter)
18" Konig rims with New Yokohama tires
Engine Start button
Carbon Fiber Front and Rear bumpers weighing in at 3 and 4 pounds each. Saving about 50 pounds.
Carbon Fiber hood? Maybe? not yet sure
I am going to repaint the Z this winter. The Color: Gunmetal Grey Metallic, by Volvo with 2 racing stripes of Barents Blue Metallic (Volvo) going the length of the hood, and one the length of the car on each side beneath the door.
Below are some pictures of the car and its progress.
Actual Daytime pictures will be added soon.
Front Shot, missing a bumper, but not for long
The door panel was originally white and Grey
the Dash and Console Dark Blue
The Terrible Seats that were in the car.
Rust FREE :)
Restored Steering wheel and console again
One of the lightweight racing seats I am to put in
daytime pictures, a little more detailed and better quality.
