This is my Dad's 1962 pride and joy dating all the way back to 1968 when he bought it for a whopping $900.00. It won many a street races on the blacktop of Philadelphia PA. The last time it saw the street was 1974 :( but i have made a committment to change all that with him. We have been working on it for a solid year and half now. Boy have i learned alot about alot in that timespan ! It is going to be a restomod with lots of upgrades and driver friendly features (big block 454) to name one !!!! The car was full of stress fractures and old bodywork we grinded out and re-glassed. Dad thought this car had no flaws...boy was he suprised when i took all her clothes off ! We sanded it down to bare fiberglass and then tackled all the cracks and waves in the fiberglass. Jet Black car needs to be perfect right ?? He is old school so we sprayed her with black Lacquer, wet sanded the hell out of it and man does this thing buff up nice! We stuffed a BBC 454 bored .30 over(nasty)in there just in case i need to pass someone on the highway. I had to fabricate some motor mounts for up front and i am currently mocking up the headers. We just ordered the IFS,rack and pinion and disc brake setup from Martz Chassis yesterday 8/2/07 so we shall see how nice that fits in there in about 2-3 weeks. We are going with the Keisler TKO 600 and Hydraulic clutch set up so we have some sort of cruising gear. I handlaid a cowl for the hood in order to fit the 454 with the dual quads under it and molded that on with a product called MOS EPOXY, another company and product i HIGHLY recommend. Customer service is second to none and the products are superior. Looks pretty nice...not to gawdy. I will try to get as many pics to tell the restoration process. Love to see some of your own cars so dont hesitate to show and tell a story of your own ! Check back frequently as i will be adding lots of pics and info. Thanks for looking guys
This is in a nice coat of Epoxy black. After the putty was sanded down we sealed it up with the DP90 for a nice base for the paint to stick to. It also let me see any last minute flaws in the body work.
Big Rat motor stuffed inside 454 bored .30 over(Dad's bright idea that made lots of extra custom work for me)! Still have to decide what colors i am going to go with on the motor and detail the engine bay..you guessed it, more sanding! You can see the custom motor plates i fabbed up to secure that baby in the engine bay. Headers are my next big chore and hopefully the last unless pop decides to try to stuff a jet engine in there or something :) After sending my info about the car to Ed at "Headers by Ed" i am tackling the task of fabbing up a set of custom, true equal length headers on his recommendation. I highly...HIGHLY..recommend his services and website if you need headers. Check out his website if nothing else, you will learn more there than you could ever imagine. We decided to go with an Ididit tilt column and steering shaft to give us more clearance for headers and reap the benefits of the rack and pinion steering. Should ride a little better with the Martz IFS up front as well. I ll post pics of that install when i get it in a couple weeks.
Big Joe checking out our handywork with the fiberglass. We were both quite suprised how nicely it turned out
Cowl kinda mocked up on the hood. I tried to stay as low profile as possible with the custom cowl so it would not look like it was out of place. We are very happy with the way it turned out.

This is sprayed but not wet sanded, buffed or anything. This is a piece of artwork !!! Boyd, Chip...if you need some help in your shop i would love to work with you guys ! Wait....do you offer benny's ??? ha ha

Talk about "MIRROR" glaze !! This is a reflection in the hood of the bottle of swirl remover after buffing it up with my Dewalt. Look at the detail...you can see the orange peel look of the sticker itself in the reflection. Little dust on it but you can see yourself 10 feet deep in it. Gotta love black lacquer.
Here is the hood after hitting it with my dewalt.
If you are looking for the wet mirror
look you can not beat the old school stuff !! Here i am spraying the silver base on the cove before we do Dad's "cobwebbing effect. He did one cove and i did the other.
Here are the cobwebs applied with a shot of silver micro metalflake added to the clear
Martz IFS finally arrived!
Lets hope it fits.

Really nice workman ship from what i can see.
