I've always loved Sir William Lyons' designs, and felt that the Ser. I and II XJ's were among his prettiest. I looked around for a long time for a really nice example with a blown engine, so that I could drop in a late model GM V8.
I found an example that had been driven around without oil, seizing the engine; a white Ser II XJ6L (long wheelbase model for extra rear seat room).
For 6 years Lady Gweneviere was my DD and weekend track car, making the high-speed runs from Miami to Orlando to go to Pleasure Island when I was still single. The Series II is not as masculine as the Series I was, but with the European-style bumpers, was among the last of the classic British Saloon/Racers.
She was a great car and was very good to me.
RIP!!
When I came to a point in my life when I needed something better suited for hauling around kids, dogs, mulch and home/yard maintenance items, I decided that the Jag would have to go (so I could keep the MG).
Sadly, the guy who bought the Jag only wanted the Chevy V8, transmission and conversion components for his XJS.
Poor Gwen was stripped of the bits he wanted and then sent to the scrapyard.
A travesty. {:o(
