This 2008 Ford Focus Coupe is owned by Brian Fox. I got the car on September 22, 2008 to start my build process.
Make sure you check back every week as we will be updating this page all the time with new information on parts for this new car.
WEEK 1 - Sept 22-28
WEEK 2 -
Friday, I went down to BWI (Baltimore Airport) to pick up Kenny who flew in from Houston, TX. to do this turbo kit. Friday, he gutted the engine bay to start work on Saturday. On Saturday Sept 29th we did two things. Kenny from TurboChargers.com started to develop the turbo kit. Also, Dave Love (The Interior Ripper Outer Guy) from Fox Marketing took the Dash, Door Panels, Center section out of the car so I could get covered this week. Here are some shots and a little decription what you are looking at.
Kenny mounts the Intercooler, Cuts Intercooler Piping, mounts Manifold and Turbo.
Shot of the Engine bay from above (we are three hours into the turbo build and coming better then expected). Turbo is mounted, one side of intercooler piping is complete, exhaust manifold is mounted and downpipe is lined up.
Dave Love looks so excited taking the door off, rips out the dash, door panels, etc. He got this done in about an hour and a half which was good time never doing a new Focus before. I modivated him with a Wendy's Spicy Chicken Sandwhich, and it gave him the energy to do that job..hahahahaha.
Troy from Legacy Innovations does some welding on the intercooler piping. He uses ESAB Welding and Cutting Products, which I hear is the best you can get. I'm a believer so far!
Monday we stopped by to see my boy Ben from Penn-Air & Hydraulics to get some custom fittings and hose's for Oil return lines, water lines, etc. for the turbo. I was in and out in a matter of minutes with the parts Kenny needed to get the job done.
AMSOIL 10w-30 Sythetic Oil was my choice from the factory 5w-20. What is cool about AMSOIL is that you don't need to flush your conventional motor oil out of the car, the AMSOIL bonds with any oil you have so there are no issues. They are the number one quality motor oil on the market today, straight up. I only use the best parts, and fuilds as you may know.
iForged Classic 2 Wheels 19x8.5 Front/19x10 Rear is what I'm putting on this bad boy wrapped in Toyo Tires. SS Brakes is what I'm using to convert the little factory brakes on the car to a 13 inch 4 piston caliper set up. The rear on the car is drum and I'm upgrading to a 12 inch 2 piston caliper in the rear. It should stop amazingly like my other cars. If you never owned big brakes in your life, your missing out! It is worth EVERY penny, trust me.
TurboChargers.com finishes up the new Turbo Kit on the Focus Coupe. It is running 5 PSI and features a GT28RS, Turbonetics Wastegate and Blow-off valve, E-Manage is used in tuning it and runs and drive great so far. I'm driving it 2,300 miles to SEMA so this was a concern before Kenny left to go back home.
WEEK 2
Mugsy's Repair in York, PA was called on to lower the new Focus with some springs but the one's we got didn't fit the 2008 version. Now, I need to find another option.
The color I selected to paint the Focus is BASF R-M Carizzma Flat Black and BASF R-M Carizzma Sunrise Gold Pearl over a white base. This is going to set the car off and I will then intergrate some BASF R-M Black to accent some factory lines. Bumpka and the staff at R&B Custom Auto Body will be making me some custom fender flares and adding the RK Sport Body Kit to the car. It will be in Philly at Bumpka's shop for 2 weeks.
WEEK 4 - Oct 23-26
On Tuesday night I picked up the car at R&B Custom Auto in Philly. Bumpka and the gang did a quality paint job on the car putting down the BASF R-M Carizzma Flat Black on the body and rear lights. Also, he painted the Roll Cage and Metal work for the interior a BASF R-M Carizzma Sunrise Gold Pearl to accent the interior when complete.
Richard from Morgan's Upholstery here in York, PA finishes up the dash to be installed in the Focus.
Oct 26, 2007 - Final Day
10am-4pm Impressive Signs
Impressive Signs has done at least 60 of my Fox Marketing cars over the last 10 years. They air brush vinyl which I really love because of the custom paint matching you can create by doing this. Color matching your vinyl to your actual paint color is a great touch and no one really does it. I worked with Mike on the design I wanted, they sprayed the vinyl for me and put it on. As you can see, I was there for a while today but worth every minute of it.
4:30pm-9:00pm Mugsy's Repair
I arrived at Mugsy's and they where finishing mounting the wheels and tires. Cory Coffman (Focus Guru) showed up and starting busting butt on the Suspension and Big Brakes. He back dated the front suspension to 2001 so we could lower the car. We choose B+G Suspension in this department and added the SSBC big brakes front and rear. Works like a champ after a test drive in the pooring down rain (rained all day today)!!
9:30-11pm Morgan's Upholstery
Took some shots of the car in the bay and left there over night so it is safe for CarDomain. Richard from Morgan's put in the glove box and some little pieces to finally finish the car.
Tomorrow, I will pick up my Event Coordinator Dave Love and we will hit the highway taking turns driving across the US to Vegas. Say a prayer for our safe arrival in Vegas, we need all the help we can get.
It is now Midnight and I'm tired as hell, but Rob (Editor of CarDomain) told me I had to post pictures and my story or he was keying my car...haha. Till SEMA guys and gals, Fox OUT!
