A Plymouth What?
Scamp. A Plymouth Scamp. 1973 to be exact. What's a scamp you say? This:
3000lbs of pure Detroit muscle. The Scamp is in the Valiant/Dart line of Mopars. The Valiants were 4-door, affordable, well built Plymouths, intended for a mature, but budgeted market.
So where does the Scamp come in? Somewhere between the 'Cudas and the 4-door Valiants. Its light, quick, and affordable. I picked mine up for $900 in amazing shape. All she needed cosmetically was a few nights of buffing and polishing, and a good cleaning on the interior.
Not bad eh? Thankfully, the little old lady
original owner who had it before me, treated it quite well, aside from the thousands of cigarette butts she left behind. I picked it up with 126,000 of her original miles on it.
Being a highschool kid, first thing i did, exhaust. Dual dynomax superturbos with 2.25" piping and dumps. The car really started to sound alive after those pipes. It was on the drive home that I tried my first burnout. Oh boy, was that nice. Mustang rolled up next to me on the stoplight, i dumped the gas and spun the tires all the way through the intersection, with the Mustang driving like a woman behind me, probably because it was a woman driving, but nonetheless.
Paycheck after paycheck went into that car. Trying to make it quicker, shinnier, louder. I wasn't happy unless i was turning heads. Here's the 318 it came with, after a few of my modifications and bolt-ons.
Edelbrock Performer Carb, Aluminum single plane Streetmaster intake manifold, Engle cam with a ton of seperation and duration- after putting in the cam, you could count the cylinders firing
very distinctly it was great, comp lifters and comp double valve springs, 360j shaft roller rockers, custom multi-spark ignition, and a few more goodies that'll be left secret :)
I ended up selling it to buy a new car for college. I'll have a page up about the 2002 Zx2 soon. If you happen to come across a red 73 Scamp on the road, this is the only view of it you're going to get:
Why? Because I gave the guy I sold it to a full 360block and crank out of a 74 CHP Intercepter, along with 360J cast heads ready to be cut into X heads.
