Hey Everyone! This is my 1965 Volkswagen Volksrod. I'm 17, I've been working on and restoring cars my whole life, but this is my first car. Hope you all like it. : ] Feel free to rate me.

You can find a more detailed, up to date, page on all the progress here on Volksrods.com
It started with one car that was severely damaged in a fire, and a donor body to replace the damaged body. I wasn't planning on chopping it at first, but I knew it wouldn't look right, and with all the work I was going to do, I might as well, so thats what I set out to do first.
Heres the body right after I pulled it off the pan, and stripped it of pretty much everything (and did a little practice cutting), and the donor body. (Around May 2006)

I stripped the pan clean, and shot a coat of primer on it. Here it is mocked up, and the donor body stripped clean, and metal rolled in the front.

I practiced the cuts for the chop on the old body, then jumped to the replacement and cut it up too (always fun). I used a piece of the old roof to complete the chop on the other body. I welded all the trim holes on the donor body, along with the fender bolt holes, and completed body work on the whole car.

When you chop a car with a domed roof like this, It has to be lengthened and widened. To lengthen it I used a piece of the old body cut longer then the donor car, so there was only one weld, instead of welding in a thin strip. Heres some pics of the lengthening and widening done- it mostly welded back together, and some body work getting done on the roof.

I Then shot some building primer to get the body ready for paint. I also then got some paint on the pan and the front end all together.

Also while this was all going on I rebuilt the engine with dual port heads, little bigger pistons and barrels, nothing radical. I plan on building an engine while this is in, and swapping it out later.

SO HOURS UPON HOURS LATER
This first time out:

AND HOURS UPON HOURS LATER
This is how it sits today:

Those pictures were taken in June, so the whole build took one year. Was a long year lol.
I've been drivin it a lot lately, and am still working out the never ending bugs to fix, but its always fun.
