WELCOME TO SKREEMER'S PAGE!
I think you can see why I love waking up in the morning to find my baby bathed in the glow of a good Alaskan sunrise!
This is how I found her. It was September of 2000. I was seeking a white '91 Prelude Si 4WS, but I found a little maroon CRX for $1000. It had a small dent on the hood, a teeny tear under the driver's seat, one dog worth of hair, and 192K miles. And everything else was perfect. I couldn't pass it up. Now at 248K miles, I've been permanently converted.
This would be about the time the security system was put in...
I got the wheels as soon as the snow melted enough to ditch the studs. I decided on 16" Mille Miglia MM11-2 rims and 205/40ZR16 Michelin Pilot Sport rubber. When I opened the box, I knew imediately that I made the right choice. They look freakin huge. Now it looked peppy, but still a little clunky, too...
I wanted her smooth and clean. So I got clear corner and bumper lights and PIAA super white headlight bulbs and took off all the decals and badges. That helped a bit.
The next summer, I got Ground Control coil-overs with Eibach springs to drop the stance. What a difference! The ride is barely any different, but there is no body roll, and I can take anyone through a corner.
Next, I picked up some projector headlights, crystal corner lights, LED washer nozzle lights (I know: rice cliche, but I got them BEFORE anyone else in Anchorage had them), and little $20 Wal-Mart fog lights. I wanted to lose the hazy-eyed look. Did it work?
By the end of the summer, the little rust spots behind the rear wheels were getting to be noticeable, so I talked my friend John Beier (owner of Beier's Auto Body here in Anchorage) into grinding out the rust and painting the car for me--including the brakes. I am still amazed how seamless it looks. Who needs a body kit?
