The prep work is complete click here to see pictures of the actual install

Green_Moray's 2001 Mazda Miata Look what I found greeting me in the living room when I got home. The turbo finally arrives

Green_Moray's 2001 Mazda Miata Radiator drained, oil drained and all ready to start. Notice the table off to the left, that will be my working table for the current part to install

Green_Moray's 2001 Mazda Miata Before

Green_Moray's 2001 Mazda MiataI only spent a couple of hours on it this evening. Removed the cam cover and the airfilter/cross tube. The cam cover doesn't need to be removed for the turbo install but I am going to powdercoat it along with the intake manifold.

I spent a couple of more hours today and removed the throttle body, upper intake manifold and exhaust heat shield.

Green_Moray's 2001 Mazda Miata Here is a close-up of the FM modified lower intake. You can see where they drilled and welded a spot for the auxillary injectors.

Green_Moray's 2001 Mazda Miata These are the parts I am getting powdercoated bright red. I packed and shipped them this morning. Hopefully they will look good with the red FM intercooler piping.

Green_Moray's 2001 Mazda Miata I still have to remove is the lower intake and the exhaust header and mid-pipe. It appears removing the lower intake is going to be as bad as every says. I need to pick up a set of offset wrenches before I remove it.

Green_Moray's 2001 Mazda Miata The car is now up on jack stands. The exhaust manifold and radiator have been removed. All that remains is to remove the lower intake manifold. Once I get the powdercoated parts back the install will begin.

Green_Moray's 2001 Mazda Miata The engine bay is starting to look pretty bare. I purchased the mid-pipe, turbo exhaust and aluminum radiator from FM today. They recommended I wait on the radiator until I see if I have overheating problems, but I only want to do this once so I bought it anyway. The stock radiator only holds 6.3 quarts of coolant.

Green_Moray's 2001 Mazda Miata Here is a pic of the items removed so far, exlcuding the things being powdercoated. You can see the frame bracing, exhaust, radiator and cooling fans. Notice the windshield washer resevoir off to the left. I purchased a Thompson remote oil filted last week because I will no longer be able to reach the oil filter from the top due to the auxillary injectors. It turns out my washer resevoir must be relocated to the same spot the remote oil filter mounts.

Update: I decided to not mount the remote oil filter. There just isn't enough clearence between the oil lines and the ABS lines.

Pics didn't work for me in either FireFox or IE, but I vote for the IL Clear. I have them on my '01 Silver LS. They'll look like twin jewels from the back. Geoff

Steve, great cars! I own a 2000 SE that I've done a few mods to as well. The KG Works Instrument clusters are awesome. I'm going to be adding the wood grain soon myself. Did you go with the FMII? I'm still undecided between SC and Turbo. Thank you for the install photos and heads up with the install issues you ran into. Great Miata's. I'll be checking back for updates.
