Mirror Turn Signal Light Change Modification
This write up is not complete, the pictures have not been posted yet. I will get them up as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.
How to Make Your Side Mirror Turn Signal a different color
------------------------
This is a project that might permanently damage your turn signal. I only recommend doing this if you are handy with custom projects. I do not take any liability for any damaged signals or car parts. These are guidelines to how to do this modification. If you break your signal housing or light, you can purchase a new one for $25-$30 at the following website.
-------------------------
Skill Level: 8
Time: 30 minutes per signal.
-------------------------
Tools you will need (Tools I used to complete the project)
-------------------------
Dremel or like tool
Thin cutting wheel for Dremel
Stone-sanding wheel for Dremel
Soldiering Iron
Soldier
Wire (Approx 3 inches per light)
Liquid Nails (Preferably Clear)
High Flux LEDs
- I purchased my LEDs from superbrightleds.com, they are 5mm High Flux LEDs
A vice would also be useful in this project
For safety reasons I must recommend long sleeves and goggles
1. First you need to remove the shell from your rear view mirror.
a. To do this is really simple. If you get a small flat head screwdriver you can pry into the shell near the bottom of the signal. Don’t worry about breaking it, this is very durable. You will most likely break one or two clips, and don’t worry it your housing will go back on.
2. Once your shell is off you need to remove the signal.
a. Remove the two screws on the signal, and disconnect the plug. If you need help on the plug take a screwdriver, and pry it out from the mirror side of the signal.
3. Once your signal is removed, now comes the tricky part. Take your dremel cutting wheel, and slowly start cutting the clear plastic from the grey plastic. I can cut below the point where the clear meets the grey. This is up to you. I tried to cut the best I could right between the clear and the grey.
4. Once you have completely separated the clear from the grey you will now see the LED lights and how they hook up. These LEDs are special to that they let current flow through them. So to use the high flux LEDs that I recommend you need to do the following.
a. First cut off the existing LEDs so it leaves just the points of contact. You will need to drill holes in the metal so the new LEDs can be mounted. It is also your choice to just solder it to the metal or drill holes. See picture below.
b. Now that you have the old LEDs off and have drilled holes if you chose this route, you are ready for the next step.
c. Make cuts in the metal as shown you will need to make two cuts. Once these cuts have been made you will need to take the sanding bit, and sand the metal till it shows copper so the solder will stick.
d. Take two short wires, and solder the wires as shown below this way you can differentiate between + and – sides.
e. Next you are ready to mount your new LEDs
f. Solder your new LEDs first testing which side is positive and negative so you do not soldier incorrectly. To test it you can go back to your car, and plug in the signal and just touch the LED to the metal points where the old LEDs used to be, and see which way makes it blink. (Turn your hazard lights on to test this)
5. Now that you have soldered your new LEDs on, and have tested them out to make sure that they are mounted well, and they both blink you are ready to put the housing back together.
6. Sand off all the melted plastic from the housing pieces from when you cut it apart so that it is smooth for mounting back together.
7. Apply a generous amount of liquid nails to the edge of the grey base, and then place the clear ontop attempting to align it back as best as possible. Put some liquid nails on your finger and run it along the edge of the signal where you cut it. This way it ensures a good seal. I let it set before I mounted it back on the car. But DO NO LET IT CURE. If you didn’t align it correctly you will have to separate it again. By mounting it back on the car you can tell if it is properly aligned.
8. Mount the signal back on the car using the two screws you removed earlier, and plug the wire back in and check to see if it works before placing the shell back on. Check fitment, and make sure everything aligns well. If not take the shell back off, and reset the signal.

I HIGHLY recommend not doing this mod. Though it was really nice to have when I had it. If you choose to do this you can use normal headlight bulbs and run a new wire. I used an H1 bulb.---
Pictures to Come, Plenty of Mods as well.
Planned to get 600+ HP off a turbo and engine rebuild. We will see. This ones gonna be a sleeper unlike my last car. No exterior mods except for headlights, rims and coil over system.
