The Truck
My Truck is a 1978 Datsun 620 Longbed Pickup. It has about 80,000 original miles on it and was dropped off at my house on July 3, 2007. It is light blue but the color code says its a 103 (true blue.) It is mostly stock and original. It has the inevitable rust but overall it is in very good condition. There are just small rust spots on the paint and the frame has a lot more rust but nothing dangerous or damaged by it. The only real concern is the driver's side floor panel.
It has completely rusted, close to being very thin so i have to treat it and refinish that to make it safe. Other than the cracked dash and sun faded colors everything is great. Original seat, gauges, wiring, engine, and paint. The only change was made to the stereo and speakers but i plan to replace that with a more expensive stereo and put 4 speakers in all.
The Story
I got this truck from my uncle who lives out in Windsor. He had the truck for about three years with the intent to make it a work truck so he could haul stuff aroung his land. He didn't have the time to work on it with all his time being consumed with his kids, building his house, and working on his other cars (hot rods - corvettes). So at a family get-together my dad started talking to him and he decided to just give it to me. So about 6 months later, because of our busy schedules, it arrives at my house. I've been working on it since and loving every moment of it.
My Plans
I am planning to restore this truck to running condition first and as a project vehicle to learn how things work and how they correspond with everything else. And then i plan to restore it to original condition or as close as possible. I am 17 years old with limited funds because i have one job but with limited hours because of school and other activities. I plan to hold onto this truck for a long time and work on it for fun. Maybe in my future it will come to show status but that is not my main goal.
Here's the engine
(original) 4 cylinder O.H.C.
Runs great but i need a carbureator
tune up, rebuild, or replacement.
I've been hearing the brand Weber is
a suitable match for my truck. Still
looking for one...
What it Needs
It runs great but i need to get it registered because my uncle had it under salvage so he didn't have to get it smogged if it wasn't going to be on the road.
4 new tires
A clutch
Carb adjustment
