AE111 TO AE102 1993-1997 REAR DISC BRAKE CONVERSION PAGE
This conversion will work for the 1993-2002 Corollas. The picture above is what the stock REAR drum brake look like before. First, You must remove the drums. The picture on the right is what the carrier, backing plate, brake shoes & hardware look like with the drums removed. All those parts I just mentioned MUST be removed along with the e-brake cables and brake hydraulic lines. the rubber hoses from the drums are NOT used.Once you remove the hydraulic lines, Now is a good time to attach the NEW hoses or in my case my NEW stainless steel hoses to the levin calipers to stop the brake fluids from leaking out.
Remove the carrier completely with trailing arms. The Rear CROSS MEMBER must also be removed in order to remove the bolts from the trailing arms and rear control arms. Support the cross member with a jack while you remove the 6 bolts that hold it in place.
If you are lucky, as I was removing the REAR control arms are a ROYAL pain in the butt. They are WELDED on with RUST around the bolts and bushing sleeves. I had to take mine to a local shop and had them heated and removed. The picture on the left shows that entire carrier with both arms still attached to them. The air hammer chisel did the trick after heating up the carriers.
As you can see from the above pictures, the caliper on the left with the e-brake cable attached is the one from the Levin and the one on the right is from the AE82 and the AE92 THEY ARE EXACTLY THE SAME CALIPERS! the only thing that changes is the mounting brackets.Hey who would think Toyota had so many interchangeable parts like that. Also the brake pads on the right side of the picture are also identical as well.
Here are some better angles of the REAR disc conversion. Also note that the rust was inhibiting the sheet metal, so drastic measures had to be taken.
