cablemirc's 1991 Mazda Protege

Welcome to Ahura's Flame cardomain site..

For those of you who are uninitiated, the Mazda Protege is the underdog of the import world. Skipped right over in a world of Altezza taillights and riced-out Civics, this car is very likely the most underestimated little booger on our shores. sold as one of the ORIGINAL sport compacts across the rest of the globe, the Mazda Familia really got the bad end of market timing stateside, and ended up as a stripped down, seriously dumbed-down version of the original. Thrown on to the low end of the market, to compete with vehicles such as the Hyundai Excel, the car was left to a fate undeserving for what i consider to be one of the greatest sport compacts of our time. Left to be the lowly, underpowered commuter, while it's kin across the globe proved itself enormously capable in rally sports, outstanding power, and breathtaking style.

My goal? To give my little Mazda Protege DX a proud spot in the "Familia" she deserved to be in, and bless us stateside with some of the power and beauty and grace.

In the words of Virginia Slims, she's come a long way, baby.

The first six pages will take us through the way she looks today, then through purchase condition, and the steps taken along the way to improve this little 1991 Mazda Protege DX into the hot little Familia she is today.

Now, on to exterior lighting.
