Thanks for the great comments! My lil' pick'em-up truck is a 1955 Chevy 3100 2nd series. I was looking for a fun driver for just cruising around. My other cars are fairly original and usually garaged.
The truck was built at the GM Oakland, CA plant and sold to a public utility company. Here are a few pics of the truck before the restoration began. It was pretty rough but a custom big-window cab, all rust-free original sheet metal with it's original factory undercoating. Here's a few pics before the restoration. The restoration lasted from 2002-05. A local 1976 Camaro donated the front clip, disc brakes and tilt steering column. The 350 small block is a 1974 truck 4 bolt main with a freshly rebuilt 1988 700R4 tranny. 3:73 10-bolt posi rear axle and a set of 1973 Corvette 15 x 8 "AZ" Rally wheels. The work continues. The lil' truck cleaned up good...now it drives like new with a stereo/CD player and a 17-gal GM gas tank now under the rear bed. Here's a link to a video of the truck! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItcrT0e8W1A A fresh new start for the 'lil truck.
