Thanks for the great comments!
I looked for several years to find a clean documented unmolested Chevelle with some local history.
This Chevelle has never left sunny dry rust-free southern California. It spent almost all of it's life in "high dry desert" of the Antelope Valley just north of Los Angeles.
Ron Hoerner of Lancaster, CA served his country honorably in Vietnam. When he was discharged in late 1968 he went to visit Starksen Chevrolet. Starksen was the one and only family Chevrolet dealer in the Antelope Valley for 40 years. It was the first 1969 Chevelle SS396 that Starksen had offered for sale. When Ron saw it on the showroom floor, he had to have it.
Factory original drivetrain 396ci/350hp L34, M20 4-speed, 3:55 12 bolt posi and factory A/C. Factory warranty Protecto-plate documented.
Ron owned the car for 15 years. His friend and neighbor Tom Murphy was constantly bugging him to sell him the car because for years it only sat in his garage. After a few years he finally did.
Tom loved this Chevelle. He owned it until 1995. He did a frame-up restoration on the car for 1992-95. He painted the car in Red lacquer and removed the vinyl top...but the original drivetrain remains in tact documented with the original protecto-plate. After the restoration Tom didn't drive the car much and eventually sold the car.
Here's a pic of the day I bought the car. Factory Protecto-Plate w/reversed image
documents the original Drivetrain!

I found the Chevelle in a local "Recycler" paper ad. This was my first classic car purchase after looking for several years. My lil' Chevelle remains fairly original with 6900 miles since it's restoration completion in 1995. It has both of it's original black California plates, is rust free and has all of it's original sheet metal. It is laser straight with never a hint of even surface rust.
My first official Car show with a muscle car of my own, the annual "Cruisin' Pasadena" at Pasadena City Hall, Pasadena, CA.

Here are some current pics.

I have installed some upgrades when I found missing original parts on Ebay. The car is amazingly original with even it's smog equipment in tact. Everything works including the door buzzer and reverse lockout. It starts and drives like new.
My Chevelle was featured in this online article:

It was recently used in a commercial shoot for "Arrogant Bastard" Ale.
