Harnesses
Harnesses without the harness bar.
I didn't want the remove my stock seat belts nor did I want to impair leaning the front seats back all the way. So I decided to get harnesses that would bolt directly into the car with only minor modification.
It is also my understanding from fellow Subaru enthusiasts that our OEM racing seats are designed to give and the joints. Allowing the seat to fall backward in the event of a roll over. With a harness bar, this might not work so well.
I picked up blue JDM 4 point harnesses from k2motor.com. The WRX embroidered cushions I found on ebay.
Since the lap receiver is attached to the seat itself I started by unbolting the front seats allowing me room to work. I simply removed the bolt holding the receiver on and slipped the flat bracket over the receiver's bracket and put the bolt back in place. This still allows full motion of the original receiver and retaining its pivot thresholds.
When bolting the seat back in I replaced the stock rear inner bolt (the one mounted against the well) with one of the eyelet bolts that came with the harness. This allows me the clip the shoulder straps to the floor. It also keeps the straps to one side so rear passengers are not stepping over them.
Finally the remaining point of the lap belt is installed using the stock bolt that bolts the stock seat belt to the floor. I had to modify the carpet just slightly to allow both straps to pass through easily.
If you're wondering how well these will actually hold up in an accident, read the story about the hit and run on my page titled "The Accident". I was wearing my harness in that accident, and never budged.
