QA-1 K-Member Install W/Coil Over Suspension

cooper58d2002's 2000 Ford Mustang

First thing removed the wheels, Caliper, and Strut from the front end.

As you can see lots of weight is about to be shed from this front end yahooooo!

Disconnected the the Steering shaft then removed the Rack from the K-member. Then strapped the rack up to the Frame to move it out of the way.

Took off the A-arms and springs, huge difference in weight between the two.

Put a scissor jack with a wood block underneith the whole front half of the oil pan, disconnected some of the brackets that hold the wiring harness to the block.

I jacked the engine up about an inch then Just an added peice of mind I ran a strap connecting from the top of the Strut tower brace running underneith the engine oil pan just in case the scissor jack failed.

This is where you need a buddy to help you hold up this ridiculously heavy K-member. I removed the four bolts on each side then lowered the beast and moved it to the storage shed.

After placing the new K-member up to the engine I noticed there wasn't a hole for the dowel on the motor mount so i had to take it back down and drill a slot so the dowell on the motor mount would fit (the dowel is the bottom slot on the left picture) its amazing how much room this mod free's up thinking of long tube headers this is the way to go.

With the K-member set loose Time to make sure its aligned with the rear axle. Just ran two plum bob's from the A-arm mount holes to the rear axle tube. I got it withing a 16th of an inch which is good enough for non government work.

The dust cover on the strut had to be removed so that the coil over kit would fit over the strut. I drilled out the three spots that were friction welded to the strut and massaged it off with a chisle and hammer.

Put the strut together and I am calling it a day for now Its really easy so far just have to put the rest of it together. (will post pics when its all done have to work in the morning so i have to get everything ready for tommorow) if you have all the tools equipment and some decent knowlege of how to work on Cars the this is a really easy but time consuming way to get another tenth of a second in the Quarter.
