Thanks for checking out my page. This is a 1968 Chevrolet SS427 4 speed Convertible. My dad bought it from a kid in 1978. It was a total basketcase. It had a solid lifter 68 Vette motor in it and the original engine was upside down in a pool of oil. Restoration was completed in 1994. It has 34 factory installed options. The SS427 option was available on the Impala Convertible, Sport Coupe, and Custom coupe body styles. If you checked off the SS427 option (code Z24) on the order sheet, you got a 385 HP 427 Turbo-Jet engine, a special raised hood with simulated air intake, simulated air intake louvers on each front fender, special SS427 dashboard emblem above glovebox, SS427 emblem on trunklid, SS427 emblem on front grille, and SS427 front fender emblems. The trim package cost $94.80 and the 427 engine was an additional $263.30. The SS427 cars are very rare, as they only built 1778 of them in 1968. Less than 70 are known to exist.

Circa 1980
The car has its original numbers matching L36 385 Horsepower 427 with an M20 wide ratio transmission and a 3.07:1 "economy" ratio. It's not a very good rear for racing, but it'll still pin you to the seat if you stomp on it.
We did the interior in the original parchment pearl color. The car was ordered with the Z03 Super Sport option which gave you bucket seats with console and special door panels with SS emblems.
The hideaway headlights are a cool option. They are operated by vacuum, and will only work with the car turned on.
When the restoration was started, there was rot all over the place, since it's a Long Island car. The front fenders and quarter panels are NOS GM parts.
The car cost over $5800.00 brand new which was a lot in 1968! This was mainly because the original owner ordered over $2500 worth of options. Some of the unique ones on the car are the T83 hideaway headlights, F41 special performance suspension, U57 stereo tape system, C75 Comfortron A/C, U15 speed warning indicator, U46 fiber optic light monitor system, and U03 tri-volume horn.
Some pictures from when we raced the car at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indy in July
