These old automatics are shit. So I decided to keep an eye out for a parts car. The first one I found was a 1986 Honda Accord EXL-S, featuring an early B18A DOHC dual carb engine and a transmission that would bolt up to my B20A, although it was a bit weaker. The EXL-S had done 155,000km (93k miles) and actually ran quite nicely. It also had all the wiring for the factory fog lights with motorized retractable covers which was a bonus.
Then two weeks later I found another car I could not refuse. A 1986 2.0Si Formula One Edition with a manual tranny and only 87,000 miles on it. The car was still in good condition, and it gave me the stronger tranny and also a complete F1 interior which is much nicer than the blue interior my car came with.
Both transmission were removed. The tranny from the EXL-S was put in the F1 edition, which is now a daily driver for a friend of mine. The tranny from the F1 edition is waiting to be installed in my Accord.
