Tim’s Mercedes-Benz 230

This is my 1969 220, but it's actually a "combo" car. Someone who owned it in the past has taken a 220 body, and replaced the engine with a 250 engine, as well as changing the emblem on the back to "250".

Knowing nothing about Mercedes, it took me a while to figure this out. It has a four speed manual transmission from the 220, which I just last week replaced the clutch master and slave cylinders on.

Update: 7/16/07-

I've replaced the front shocks, lower balljoints, stabilizer bar bushings, transmission linkage bushings, plug wires, interior light, removed the steering wheel and placed it right-side up (someone did the tie rods and put it back upside down).

I found the clips that hold the transmission linkage together. Now if I could only get the trans from sticking in third gear-I have to reach up under the car and wiggle the levers to get it unstuck. I think it must be just adjustment of the levers-but it's too hot to work on it.

Anybody out there know where I could get a new or used shift knob for this car? The rubber/foam knob has sort of torn apart.

A work in progress!

Update:

Bought a used transmission shifter mechanism w/ like-new knob and shifter boot off ebay for $3.25-Put it all in yesterday-turns out the old shift mechanism was screwed up-it now drives great! Yeeha.

Update 6/5/08:

Planning on selling the benz. It's been consistently running well for about three months now. I bought a dwell meter, used timing light, adjusted everything with them. My work situation is changing, and even though the insurance is costing me only $20 a month (what a deal to have a mercedes in my driveway!), it's time to pass it on.
