Our 1956 Volkswagen Oval Window Convertible,
(formally identified by Volkswagen as a Karmann Kabriolett Type 1, in as much as "Beetle" was never the "official" name given to these wildly popular vehicles by the manufacturer, but rather only the "popular name" [along with the often used term, "Bug" , as in Disney's still wildly popular Herbie, the Love Bug] by the world at large and all Beetle fanatics worldwide!) is truly a beautiful car,
and original in all respects. The Frame-Off restoration was done in Florida,
the car shipped to Arizona and sold to us at the World famous Barrett-Jackson Auto Auctions, Scottsdale in January, 2007 (as Lot Number 628).
This wonderfully beautiful car can be viewed at the Barrett-Jackson webpage www.barrett-jackson.com ), along with approximately 1200 other fantastic vehicles which were then sold under the desert stars in Scottsdale, Arizona in January 2007. (The Reader may find it very interesting to note that although the Nation's economy has tragically weaken since then, the popularity of Volkswagen continues to bring "Strong Money" for these pristine show cars -- We attended the Barrett Auctions in Scottsdale (January 2007 & 2008) and Las Vegas (a first for Barrett in October 2008) since our purchase of this fine car, and people still seem willing to shell out "Big Bucks" for the wildly popular Volkswagen.
The Restorer, done by Vintage Sportscars, Inc. of Orlando, FL, carefully researched all options and period accessories available to the car in 1956, and included each and every one as part of this maticulous restoration, to include Fender Skirts & Guards (very rare), Bamboo shelf, Original Manual wind clock, (quite rare) Fender skirts and Fuel gauge (again, quite rare).
The original Owner's Manual and service book remain with the car, showing the vehicle was purchased new in December, 1956 in Springfield, Ohio (yeah, go figure, a convertible in Ohio in the middle of December?!?!).
We anxiously packed-up the car in Scottsdale, and insured its safe passage to our home State of Hawaii where we enjoy it as a "Daily Driver", entering it in Car shows and talking story with the many VW fanatics in our beautiful Island State. It's not always easy getting around the Hills & Mountains of Hawaii given that this beauty is equippped with the original, fully restored & "Numbers Matching" 36 hp / 1192 cc Engine & Transmission.
We are members of Vintage Volkswagen Club of America (and its Hawaii Affliate), Volkswagen Club of America (and its local affliate, Volkswagen Club of Hawaii) and VW Owner's Club. We truly hope you, the VW fanatic viewer, enjoy our car as much as we do. As we say here in our Island home, Aloha & Mahalo for taking the time to say Howzit!
Now, sit back, relax and enjoy several more pictures of our rare and classic Vintage Beetle, with the Beautiful Hawaiian Islands in the backround, and remember that this beauty is a "Daily Driver" -----
As an Added Treat, Please Admire the Following Pictures which were Taken @ a Hawaii "Invitation-Only" Car Show. This was the First Time BOTH of my Wonderful Classics were Shown at the Same Time (The 1955 Ford Thunderbird is in my Car Domain "Garage", and I hope you'll take the time to view it as well):
