My original wheel/tire package consisted of stock 94 alloys with a very odd TS-1 Toyo... 195/45/14. They looked hot. If you think roller skates look hot.
I went with that size before I bought the supercharger thinking the short sidewell would help me in the torque department. It did, and you will likely never find a lighter per wheel combo - unsprung weight was really nice with a wheel/tire package that weighed 23lbs(!) per corner. The guys at Discount Tires were convinced I was buying them for a shifter cart.
Since the T1-S were getting bald, I needed new rubber to go with the new suspension. I loved the T1-S, btw. Excellent stick, really improved my stopping power, and the sidewall was nice and firm. They lasted about 18k miles.
I was not really excited about the prospect of spending near $400 on a new set of tires, so I assumed my secret identity as the classified ninja and found a great deal on Craigslist - a set of very clean 15" alloys from a 99 for $150. Then I found an even better deal - the same 15" alloys, only polished and wrapped in nearly new Michelin Pilot SX tires sized 195/50/15 for $200 cash. Pretty good deal.
I'll do a little write up on their performance once I put a few more miles on them. Meanwhiles, I decided the polished alloys were too blingy for me, so I put the Michelins on the standard alloys and sold the shiny rims on ebay. I got $340 for them. So I basically scored 15" rims and $600 worth of tires for a net cost to me of $10.
And these are the wheels I'd love to have if money was not an issue. Unfortunately, it is.
