My car philosophy -

Set reasonable goals, do the work myself, and enjoy the process as much as the product. I try to find good deals when I can instead of just racking up debt. Cars are my hobby, not my passion, so I'm not putting myself in the hole just to have the latest brand name whatever that will impress the guys on the forum. Creativity trumps brand names anyway. So, here's the goals for this car:

- Daily driver, weekend warrior. HPDE's and open track days, canyon carving, occassional trips to the drag strip. I'd like to run in the mid 14's.

- 200 reliable horsepower to the wheels.

- Subtle improvements in the looks department. 'Looks better than stock, but I can't put my finger on why?' That's the kind of impression I'm shooting for.

- I'd like to match or exceed the capabilities of some of today's hotter compacts. Targets: mini cooper s, mazdaspeed3, wrx...

Yeah, staple sucked. It did leave a staple shape in the head about .005 deep, but it was right on the rear edge in a large closed area, so no critical stuff near it. Just got the head off for the 3rd time earlier, Im going to take it to a different shop some time this week and have them check it and redo if needed. I will also see if they will loan me their straight edge to check the block. I checked it with my straight edge today but I know its not as precision as theirs would be. I got only .0015-.003 from corner to corner on the block, which like I said is with a not so accurate edge. I think specs call for .002-.003 maximum, so it should be ok if my check was right. Couldnt really tell with the head, I couldnt get repeatable results on my checks, so Im not trusting it, though I did get as much as .010 from corner to corner. Sorry for the long story. I want to drive my car again!
