Here is a story of my Deuce that was covered on another website. www.musclecarowners.com .....

MuscleCarOwners.com SPOTLIGHTS Mokanracer’s “DEUCE” as the January 07 Car of the Month.

Back in the early 60’s, General Motors was struggling with their two seater the Corvair. Ralph Nader of course didn’t help with his accusations of that car not being safe and prone to rollovers. With Ford Motor Company’s cute little Falcon, GM decided it was time to come out with a car to be competitive with the much-loved Falcon. 1962 proved to be the start of a New Era of cars. The ChevyII was born. Later they turned to the Chevelle’s, Camaro’s, Mustangs, and of course we all know the battles that insued for the perfect Muscle car by the big 3 automakers. But this month we are focusing on one little car, with a seriously big attitude.

Roger Whitaker, we know him as MOKANRACER, acquired this car not so long ago. Roger started building this little jewel in 2004. It started out as a humble green two door hardtop, but he envisioned a much stronger beast.
Roger hasn’t formally given the ChevyII a nickname, since it was the first of its breed built in 62 “Deuce” has been the name he affectionately calls his well mannered little Muscle Car. He then chose GM’s factory color “Torch RED” to capsulate the horses that this car would soon have. MOKANRACER also owns a 55 Chevy Belair this same color. The Deuce is a licensed Antique. It may be 44 years of age but it has one extreme kick like that of a teenager.

Here is a list of some modifications that has been done to this toy. Roger started by re-stubbing the front of this car by installing the TCI tubed front clip with a Mustang rack and pinion steering. He also converted the front TCI clip to coilovers and he also changed the rear to match, along with Chassis Works ladders. The Deuce also has adjustable QA1’s on all corners. He uses a fiberglass hood and Aero Scoop to cover the heat below. The rest of the Deuce is ALL metal.

The Muscle that moves this baby is a Stroker 383, using 6” Eagle Hbeam 3 D/L –19 bolts, 4340 Scat Stroker crank, forged Weisco flat top pistons, supported with 215 Dart heads and the 49cc chambers give it a compression ratio of about 14.5:1. The Cam kit choice is from Lunati, with an 850 cfm Proform carburetor. The ignition system is all MSD. NOS provides an extra 300 HP if needed. Drive train consists of PST 3” drive shaft, 9” Strange with Daytona pinion support, 33 spline Moser Axles and Billet spool. The transmission is a TCI Turbo 400 with Billet Neal Chance 10” converter.

Along with the frame modifications, Roger did a complete restoration of the body by installing new quarter panels, door handles, bumpers, grill, head and taillights, glass and interior. Roger built the center console that holds all Autometer gauges, MSD box, retard box and window switches to tame the shot. You can see that Roger adds steroids to his Muscle via the form of 2 Nitrous Oxide bottles.

MOKANRACER’S Deuce frequents the MOKAN Drag strip. The first time Deuce rolled off the trailer, Deuce ran a time of 11.16 at 118 mph on just the motor. With a 150 shot of NOS, Deuce ran an impressive 10.5 second run at 130 mph. Roger’s plan this winter is to change the gear ratio on the Deuce from the current 4.22’s to 4.56’s. He is expecting to get down the track in impressive 10’s on just the motor and down into the blistering 9’s with the 150 shot. He rolls all this metal and muscle on Mickey Thompson ET street tires sized at 26x11.5x15’s. After all, it’s a driver not just a racer.

As you can see from the photos, Roger has his hands full…. Taming the beast inside this 62 ChevyII that we will call……. “THE DEUCE”.
