I bought this 1965 MKII Spitfire in Lima Peru in 2005 basically in the condition you see in these photos for US$5400. I was looking for an american classic to restore & use as our wedding car & I found this Spitty after talking to a guy in a pub who had a white MKIII & knew of this one for sale. The guy had owned it 7 years & had it restored & now wanted to restore an Austin Healey that he had just found in the back of Lima.He was also around 6'4" so I'm sure the Spitty was a bit of a squeeze. The before shots were not real pretty. He reckoned it owed him about US$6500 but he had had more than $1000 worth of enjoyment out of it & wanted to see it go to a good home. It had some minor damage where his son bumped the hardtop, which was leaned up against the garage wall, with the bonnet whilst parking, so both were a little dented. The workshop that did the resto, repaired the damage & stripped it back to bare metal again & repainted it a slightly darker green for US$400!! (God bless Peru) We used it for our wedding car & so now it is part of the family never to be sold. I work in a goldmine in the Andes so the Spitty lives in Lima & we use it whenever we are down there. It's all original apart from the wheels, which personally I think suit it anyway. It really turns heads wherever you go & it's a real fun car to drive. There are a few minor mechanical things (leaks, rattles, electrical stuff) that bug me but one day when I return home I'll pull it apart & fix it all up. Colour & cosmetic-wise there's really nothing I will change.
