bora492’s Maserati Bora

    • Currently 4.3/5 Stars.

Maserati's first mid-engine production car, carrying a 4.9L V-8 mounted longitudinally, with 4 Weber carbs. Citroen hydraulics control the brakes, headlights (raise/lower), seat height adjustment, and pedal set, which slides forward or back to suit the driver. I recently upgraded the cooling system with a new Fluidyne radiator, dual SPAL fans, an original lip spoiler, and additional cooling holes in the lower valence. I've owned the car > 10 years, and it's always a blast to drive.

Trunk space is really good for a mid-engine car. Engine sits right behind your head. However, Maserati used dual-pane glass to deaden the sound (somewhat).

Here's the new radiator and cooling fans. Unfortunately, the SPAL fans eat 28 amps, and the old alternator can't keep up.

Here's the old alternator next to the new 140-amp alternator. A little fabrication to fit the new alternator, and we're back in business.

One more comment ,, when battery runs low the fans don't run at full speed , to cool the radiator ( much like a dimmer yes fans run but at a lower speed ) so yes they still run , so one thinks ahhh problem with the radiator , my fans are running , when battery is fully charged the fans turn at full speed either on or off mostly if your water or engine is too hot again the problem is 90% caused by battery which is not charged fully ( so fans run at slow speed ) due to regulator not doing it's job , honestly run a low RPM delco with external regulator , ( note Delco does not have such a alternator so you will have to modify the regulator ...Maurice laporteam117@xtra.co.nz

Problems with the alternator on a Bora is common due to running hot the regulator often does 'nt function as it should ( overheating ) I run a low rpm ( 500 rpm ) charging delco removed the regulator and fabricated a plate so could still run same brushes ( brush holder , we then put the regulator 1 meter away in a more cool place ,, never ever had anymore problem , Note originally Bora 's and Meraks had from factory a external regulator .. I am the person that also makes the replacement hydraulic cylinders for the headlights seat and pedal box Maurice laporteam117@xtra.co.nz
