I just picked this baby up. The owner was selling his house and needed to sell the car. Since he and I have been friends for our whole lives we came to a deal that worked for both of us. It needs some TLC but it is definitely a looker. My other car is faster and handles a whole bunch better (who came up with drum brakes anyway...bah). But I cannot deny the joy of driving a muscle car again.
After owning the car a couple weeks I have found out more about her. She completely numbers matching. No one has done anything to the engine, no mods, nothing. Additionally the interior is completely from the factory. It has not been reupholstered. In fact I found remnants of the build sheet still under the back seat, remnants not enough to use. She looks to have been repainted once, but it looks to be just a repaint of the original Plum Crazy Purple. Everyone says that Plum Crazy wasn't available after 1971, but I contacted Chrysler and they sent me a photo of a Plum Crazy 1972 Challenger used in ads. They have said that although Plum Crazy wasn't a listed option color, it could be special ordered. It is more rare. Someone also installed some Super Stock rear springs. That is why she sags a little to the drivers side. SS springs were designed to compensate for the torque off the line.
The transmission was leaking when I bought her so I installed a B&M TransPak shift kit and a Summit 2 quart deep trans pan.
