I got this clean 1970 Cougar last year, previous owner told me it sat for 14yrs before he decided to bring her back to life. Everthing was restored except the engine where it remained a stock 351 Cleveland 2v. Havent done a Marti report yet but my Cougar is originally a Houndstooth Cougar from the door tag info. The pics you see here are before pics...right now it's in the shop, I'm at her heart big time. The only part's I'm reusing in the engine bay are the 351C block and water pump, the engine, trans and rear-end should be done late june early july. until it's done I will say no more except check back for more pics and info

Here she is!! Top was redone by previous owner, my plans are to put back on the Houndstooth vinyl soon as I find some material close to how it looked back in 1970

I love that front you just dont see these everyday

mcmike85's 1970 Mercury Cougar

I forgot to turn off the highbeams thats why both lights are on still looks sweet

mcmike85's 1970 Mercury Cougar

Here's a close up...looks freaking sweet. Plans are to add the Eliminator hood scope it deserves it from what I'm doing to the motor

mcmike85's 1970 Mercury Cougar

Those rear lights are the shiznit, especally when I use the signals it does the sequential thing no glitches. Plates read "70 X 351". But now it reads "351 PUMA"

Interior is super clean but my plans are to put the Houndstooth material back in there, found the vendor just havent pushed the go button yet

This is her heart 351 Cleveland 2V stock to the bone thats just dirt in there no rust are grim. I have major plans that are currently under going right as you read. I'm already $7thou-wow into it and I'm not even stroking it out this time around. It had good power before I decided to go all out but if you dont know the saying "Ford Chev whatever ya got dont mean Sh*t if yo Sh*t an't hot"(Mac Dre) you'll never understand.

Here are some of my go fast goodies

I might paint my new rocker covers after seeing how good the stock ones looked.

mcmike85's 1970 Mercury Cougar
mcmike85's 1970 Mercury Cougar

started painting the engine bay... I'm considering consalting the pro's to get the job done right....Ya know

mcmike85's 1970 Mercury Cougar

They started on the rear also but I purchused the wrong installation kit thats on back order. Right now would be a good time to do the disk brake conversion

mcmike85's 1970 Mercury Cougar

I still need parts before the engine goes in, most are on back order until aug 3rd. then I gota get special headers made up that I'm not to happy about because of the cost $800+ shipping...damn I should of stayed with chevy much cheaper...not! (no pun intended...its true ford parts are more expensive) I'm a FOOOOOOOOORD Man! now though. I'll come back around to chev's after I do a MOPAR!!! Resto..ya dig. I'm diffrent man I'm dippin man

Update!!!

engine installed looks sweet, just doing the final touches

I dont like them yellow wires and I think I want some chrome pully's to set off the look even more. So I'm changing the wires to red and the distributor cap also.

Cant see them in the engine bay but they're in there Hooker 4V's....Loud as SH!T

mcmike85's 1970 Mercury Cougar
mcmike85's 1970 Mercury Cougar

Tru-trac and 3.70 gears installed

mcmike85's 1970 Mercury Cougar

Right now were getting the electrics in order from the last mechanic that burned up my wires. I'm not worried it's coming out of his pockets. Aluminum radiator didnt fit 100% so were fabing up some stuff to get it in there. Optima red top battery and I belive the engine will be to my liking. I'm also happy to find out I got factory front disc brakes so all I have to do is the rear.

From this

mcmike85's 1970 Mercury Cougar

to this so far...

mcmike85's 1970 Mercury Cougar

I'll say I have came a long way. The cougnut is loud as hell now....I love it

Hey good to see the updates!!! That motor is sweet!! And that Cleveland doesn't need to be stroked...you can pull some awesome hp power out of those 450+, all the stroke is going to do is give you more torque. Simply awesome!!! KEEP IT ROARING!!! Mr. N
