MR. NOISY'S 1967 MERCURY COUGAR
THE GOLDEN CAT (Terrible Ted)
If it's too loud in here, then you can just get the F..K out of here! - Ted Nugent

Hello and thanks for veiwing my 1967 Mercury Cougar. You will not find another one like it on the planet. I feel this car has achieved it's place in the Cougar Hall of Fame!
This Cougar has the look of a true classic muscle car. I wanted to give my Cougar the aggresive look but not taking away from it's classic look. Unlike Mustangs a Cougar truely is a luxury class automobile and deserves to be kept in it's classic design.

"IN THE BEGINNING"
I purchased this car in the summer of 2006, just before my 32nd birthday. So Happy Birthday to me. I pondered on what vehicle to purchase for my project car. Being a Ford man I really liked the classic Fastback Mustangs....I did not want me to fall into the typical stereo-type Mustang crowd. So I looked at Fairlanes, Comets and eventually a couple of Cougars!!! To be honest when I saw the first Cougar I looked at, it took me back in time...back when I was in the ARMY back in Fort Riley, KS "BIG RED ONE" Iron Rangers!! I had an opportunity to purchase a 1968 Mercury Cougar for $3,500...let's just say I could not afford it. So the oppurtunity was here now...I am no longer a poor GI. I was ready to get a kick ass Cougar. I fell in love with the Car design all over again...just like the summer of 1995.
So here is my prize Cougar, all for just $2,500 bucks. And the engine and tranny had just been rebuilt. Sweet Deal, I immediately said "I will take it!!"

ENTIRE RESTORATION PROCESS

A little Pinstriping from Autotrix (Helena)...gave it a classic look and enough eye candy for $50. Turn out really nice!

CAR SHOWS

DEER LODGE ROD RUN - DEER LODGE, MT - June 17,2007

This was my first car show. Deer Lodge is known for it's car museum, lot's of classic cars. Most of these cars never see daylight for a year ...until today. Very good learning experience!!! Last time I ever do a parade. Car over heated...and the fan shroud melted to the fan, had to cut it off and rip it out. So that sucked. But had a lot of fun, met alot of great people. Car Shows are a great place to meet people that you may need down the road...especially a helping hand. Out of a 150 cars I placed in the top twenty. I was called around tenth or so. Won a pretty cool embroidered cooler bag.

HELENA ROD RUN - HELENA MT - July 1, 2007
Okay this was huge event for me. Over 500 cars!!! Alot of fun. I arrived and immediately found a Mustang..and I had to park next to it, so everyone could see the differance between the two. Not even close...the Cougar ROARED!!! over the competition. Plus my loud ass Cougar ate it alive!!! Yeah Baby!!! Shook the owner away for the whole day..HA HA !!!! Then met another Cougar owner and had him park his Cougar next to mine. I also meet a guy that had this awesome 1941 Indian. I had to share it with you all. He inherited it from his grandfather in a box!! This was the Top bike at the show. Great Show...had a great time.

LES SCHWAB 1st ANNUAL MUSCLE & MUD SHOW - HELENA, MT July 14, 2007

This was a small local event. Not a lot of cars at the show. I think next year will have a better showing considering the prizes and you actually get a T-shirt for registering. I placed 3rd and won a $50 gift card. I am pictured with the trophy...I am proud of my domanance and the power of being loud!!! I was the only person that actually talked to people about the car and fired it up occasionally...so that all could hear that is was a muscle car...not just a grocery getter. I look forward to more events..but it is getting to damn HOT!!!!
This is my new projects section
First new project! Fix the only eye sore on the car!! The engine!!!
Let's start by removing it first! OOOOO!! UGGGGLLLLY!!!

Okay moving right along, looks a lot better!!
Getting closer got some help with adjusting the valve train!
The engine is looking sweet and should be in a couple of days!

Me screwing off...Hard at work!!
Okay finally got the damn thing in...motor mounts were a big pain in the ass!!!!
06/09/2009 - HEY this is very important to you 67' Cougar guys... I found the problem with my motor mounts. I have seached for the right mount and nobody sells the mount...nor do they make a motor mount for a 67' Cougar...trust me it won't work. This is what you will need to do. You will need to find a 68' - 70' 6028-c and 6029-c Engine frame bracket(s) this will allow you to use the motor mounts from any auto part store. Why Ford changed things!!! But it will save you some Heartache and some Backache. I found a set off of a 68' Cougar at a local salvage yard. There is a big differance between the 67' and 68' ...trust me. If you can't find these locally try - http://www.westcoastclassiccougarinc.com/
Do not trust a Mustang supplier unless they know a lot about Fords and can usually tell by the collection of rare classic Fords they have restored. Mustang parts are not all universal with Cougars. I have found that out the hard way.

Ok a few of the Motor Done but...unfortanatly I got to Pull it again...Crap!! ... I Know!!
Long story but lets just say it the Motor oil that did it...so if you are going to install a new Hyd. flat tap cam...buy some Zinc additive ZDDP...motor oil does not have enough in it...crazy but you will spin the cam in about 20 miles. So go out and buy some!!! Lucas oil additives!!
Here some of the problems i ran into last summer..the summer of 2008 sucked.
First, I had a stud mount go bad...turned out to be a cheap weak ass stud mount. I could of cut it in half with a hack saw. There ought to be a law against cheap crap being used...

Second, this caused damage to the roller rocker...so I got new ones!!!! Comp Cam gold series with ARP 7/16" stud mounts, these babies are bad ass!!! Talk about a serious valvetrain!!! It's frikin awesome!!!

I got big plans now!!! WHOOOOUUAAAHHH!! Mad Plans of putting out some serious HP!!!

Okay new Plans:
1.) New Cam(obviously) 2.) New Carb (650cfm-700cfm) 3.) 3.50 rear gear 4.) Strengthen 9" Rear
I have begun the Resurrection II project last weekend, ready to pull the motor just need to pop the motor mounts and it's time to get dirty!!! 02/19/2009
06/01/2009
OK when it rains it pours!!!! I just pulled my motor apart and kept digging and found tons of grit everywhere and I found the source. The thrust bearing is all jacked-up from the 3 & 7 connecting rods chopping away at it...totally sucks...so now I have to do a entire rebuild!!

This does not look good!!
So here is my new plan:
331 ci DSS Racing short block (O' yeah I am ready to make this Cougar ROAR!!)
http://www.dssracing.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=PB331
No more hydro. Flat tap cams!!! Going to go Roller - Ford Racing X303 cam 288 DUR/.542 Lift - Should make a easy 400hp+
I MADE READER'S ROUNDUP IN THE OCTOBER ISSUE

MODIFIED MUSTANGS AND FORDS
