This 1993 Miata was built by Sneed's Speed Shop for Jay Doub. It is his Time trial and Autocross car. The car started life as a 1.6L that Jay bought new in 1993. As soon as he got it home, he installed new springs and shocks. For a few years it served as Jay's auto x car and when his son became old enough to drive, Jay gave the Miata to his son Jack to drive and race. When Jack passed away of complications from a mountain bike crash, Jay sold his other car and returned to racing the Miata in honor and memory of his son.
Sneed's Speed Shop and Jay Doub started their business relationship in the fall of 2004 after Jay blew his motor at an HPDE. Over the past years the car has progressed from a mild street/track car to a barn burning track/street car.
First the engine: Its a 97 Miata 1.8L with Carrillo rods and Wiesco pistons swinging on a stock crank. The bottom end is balanced and blue printed with a 10,000 RPM red line. The head is completely ported and polished with the stock cams dailed in with Fidanza adjustable cam gears. A M62 Fast Forward Supercharger kit making 14psi crams the air in the engine while a Jackson Racing header and Borla exhaust let it out the back. Fuel is supplied from a Walboro 255 LPH in tank pump to the RC engineering 750cc injectors and everything is managed by an AEM stand alone plug and play ECU. That was tuned by Sneed's Speed Shop. To keep air and water temps down on the track the car uses a water/meth injection in place of an intercooler that is activated by boost pressure as well as a super duty truck oil cooler and Koyo radiator. The car made 216whp @ 7500rpm on Sneed's Speed Shop's in house Dynomite chassis dyno.
The chassis and cockpit: Tein springs, KYB AGX shocks keep the tires stuck to the track while the Flyin Miata sway bars and butterfly under chassis brace keep the car tight and flat around the bends. Carbotech brake pads at all the 4 corners bring the beast to a halt and the Hard Dog rollbar makes the Maita track legal. Inside Momo Start seats and Willians 5 point seat belts keep Jay and his passenger in place. While the stock gauge cluster and Autometer Boost and Oil temp gauges report on the engine's condition to avoid another melt down.
