turkeysneck's 2005 smart fortwo

My car was bought new in 2005 as a Belgian import. Before it came I had already bought Brabus Monoblock VIs 16" alloys, EBC disks/pads and Bilstein Streetline suspension kit.

The Bilsteins and EBC disks/pads where fitted almost straight away. The drop is stated to be 30mm all round but only the front showed a visible drop.

The Monoblocks were next to be fitted. The car looked really good on these alloys but the ride quality was harsh on the potholed Manx roads.

The uprated Brabus 74kw TIK was next to be fitted. The car was able to then rev out properly and seemed to pull better (less gear changes in auto mode).

A Janspeed twin centre exit exhaust was purchased and fitted. This made more of an improvement that the new TIK pipe. It is quite noisy on cold startup but is acceptable when warmed up. I sometimes drive with the window down just to hear the sweet exhaust note.

A Brabus front grill has been fitted giving it a mean look.

The standard stereo has been upgraded. I now have the under dash bass boxes with Infinity speakers, an Alpine head unit, an Alpine active sub and the best bit is that my ipod is played through the head unit and it is charged at the same time. The sound is really improved over the standard system, but it could do with some rear speakers.

I had enough of the rough ride with the Brabus alloys. I bought a set of Smart Roadster Spinline 15? alloys. The tyres had to be changed to fit my Fortwo, but now they?re on they look pretty good. I have been using them for a few months now and the ride quality is vastly improved. Acceleration has been improved as well due to the wheel diameter being smaller (23.3? to 21.9?).

I recently fitted a forge dump valve especially modified for a smart. I didn?t buy it for the sound but it is an addictive noise.

I have bought a silicon TIK pipe as I always thought that the smart ones are a poor design with lots of internal flow disruptions. I haven?t fitted it yet.

I haven?t done any other mods to the car but I plan to. I am considering having a custom remap, but due to my location it will be costly to do it. I have never thought the Bilsteins lowered the rear enough. I have been looking at Bilstein coilovers as they can possibly lower the rear by up to 60mm. I am kind of limited by tyre choice on the Roadster alloys so I am looking at Compomotive ML 15? alloys.

That is the car so far and if any further mods are made I will update this page
