Porsche LS951 (PorVette) Endurance Racing Team

Kumho Life Is Good Porvette Side.jpgSteve Rea, of Rea Realty Group, is the owner and driver of the Corvette powered wide-body Porsche 944 nick-named the "Porvette". In 2008, Steve and his monsterous Porvette will again be making an assault on National Auto Sport Associations 25-hour Endurance race in the ES class along with the help of new sponsor Kumho Tires, and a very diverse line-up of drivers.

Steve, a native to Southern California, spends most of time racing at tracks such as Buttonwillow, and Willow Springs. It was here, in N.A.S.A.s 2007 Western Endurance Racing Championship (W.E.R.C.) series that Steve made himself and his creation recognized as a true threat to the ES class, winning class several times, as well picking up a 2nd overall and 1 OA win along the way.

In '07, Steve entered the 25-hour, but a win was not in the cards. Three separate non-fault incidents forced the team to make repairs in the pits, losing precious laps to the competition.

In 2008, Steve has enlisted the help of a couple of French Porsche racing experts as well as one returning nor-Cal Porsche racer and one wild-card.

Jean Charles Perrin- originally began his racing career on 2 wheels in Europe, competing in the Super Bike Championship (SBK). Jean competed in the 24 Hours of LeMans on his motorcycle, before turning his focus to four wheels. In 2006, Jean fielded a Porsche GT3 Cup car, which he traded for a GT2-R in 2007. Jean has most recently been testing at Spa in yet another GT2-R for his second experience at the 24 Hours of Dubai.

Thierry Blaise- a Frenchman like Jean, is no stranger to Porsche racing either. Thierry won the Europa Challenge in 2005, and again in 2006. In 2007 Thierry finished a very respectable 3rd in 2007 in his 715hp Porsche 993 GT2.

John Klusendorf- another veteran to Porsche racing competes in northern California in the Porsche Racing Club which events are held regularly in conjunction with N.A.S.A. events. Besides owner Steve, John is the only returning driver of the Porvette for the 25-hour.
Dan Piña- is the only driver on the team without Porsche racing experience. In fact, Dans primary competitive driving these days in is the professional drifting series called Formula Drift (aired on Speed Channel), where Dan and his teammates took 1st in Portland and 2nd in Long Beach in 2008. No stranger to the 25, Dan won his class in 2005, and finished 2nd in class in 2006 & 2007 and won the W.E.R.C. series championship for Kumho Tires with a 1-2 finish in the 12 hour. This year, Dan has only found time to campaign a 2004 Ford GT in N.A.S.A.s Time Trials class for Kumho Tires.

With such a mixed group of drivers, the Kumho Tires/Life is Good team is a great example of the unique groups of talent and equipment that converge at the years end at N.A.S.A.s 25-hour. Both Steve and his team of drivers anxiously await the drop of the green flag December 6th at Thunderhill Park in Willows, CA.

Special thanks to Kumho Tires, Pfadt Race Engineering, Stoptech Brakes, Exeddy Clutch, RPM Transmissions, Gt-Racing, Endura Paint, Autobahn Parts, Pierce Mostorsports, Tech Trix, Suspension Specialties, Tarret Engineering, and Gtstickers.com, and Bob Faieta
2007:

Porsche LS951 (Porvette) Race Team Successfully Completes 2007 25 Hours of Thunderhill

To complete over 1500 miles and 522 laps in what is known as the longest endurance road race in North America, is a true test and testament to the hard work, preparation and design that so many people and shops have put into this race car and program. I sincerely want to thank all of them and the incredible crew without whom it would have been impossible!

While we had the 3rd fastest lap time in large field of our class (ES - Super Unlimited), we suffered 3 blatant hits by other cars which caused too much lost time in the pits to be competetive. Other than the damage due to these impacts, the car ran fantastic, fast, strong and reliable over the entire race. We look forward to 2008!!

First ever grafting of the Corvette C5 torque tube, transaxle and rear dual A-Arm suspension into a Porsche 944 turbo chassis. We are about to upgrade the LS powerplant to one with Lingenfelter heads and an LG cam. All components on the car are top-notch for performance, reliability and safety.

Big thanks to Jim Pierce of www.PierceMotorsports.com , who did this original, custom work and for making it so reliable right out of the box!

This car is designed purposely for Endurance Road Racing, and is competing in the Western Endurance Racing Championship. This series consists of 7 races which are either 3 or 4 hours each with the season finale being the first 12 hours of the 25 Hours of Thunderhill. I love that rear end. I want to be the first to know if you're ever looking to get rid of that rear end or the entire car! Very well done.

Steve - looking good (more like looking great!) I'm also a member (working on my conversion), and aspire to get mine on the track at least once. Please check my project out and leave a comment. Hope you don't mind if I add you as a friend (one of the 944/LSX club)
