Hey hey hey! I managed to find another Impulse after wasting the first one. Too bad it turned out to have so much rust the body of the car was unuseable. :( Sorry, but Cheap Street II has gone to the big scrap yard.

This one was a bit nicer and a few years newer than my old one, but it still needs major work to get it back up to par. This is a 1989 Isuzu Impulse JR non-turbo, or N/A(meaning naturally aspirated). It has all the electronic options, power everything, and A/C. The sunroof is removeable.
It's rear wheel drive, has four wheel disc brakes, 3.9:1 rear diff ratio, and front seats designed by Recaro Racing. 2.3 liters from four cylinders producing 110 HP, 127 lb-ft of torque in stock form. 140 MPH speedo and a 6500 RPM redline, no punches pulled. The turbo engine only outdoes this one by 30 HP and 26 lb-ft of torque. In stock form, that is. I think this engine will put out something close to stock turbo levels with all the modifications I'm doing. We shall see.

The 'Suspension by Lotus" setup simply means that it has a five-link rear end, medium rate springs, stiff shocks and fairly large diameter swaybars, with specifically designated bushings all around. Turbo cars and N/A cars both had the same suspension setup in 88 and 89 on the Impulse JR.

I'm thinking about running a turbo, but money's tight right about now, so that idea's on hold for the time being. The stock non-turbo Impulse has a 0-60 time of around 9 seconds and a 1/4 mile time of around 18 seconds. I'll see what I can squeeze out of this car.
Factory curb weight is between 2780-2961 lbs, depending on options. I'd like to keep this as light as possible while still enjoying a nice stereo and full interior, as opposed to ripping everything out like I did to the last Impulse I had. I could lose 60-75 lbs off the front end of the car if I dump all the A/C accessories. Hmmm. Yeah, let's get rid of it. :D
Apparently, the engine had a blown head gasket and whoever replaced it had the head rebuilt. Hmm. Good or bad? Considering that they didn't bother to replace any of the cracked and split vaccuum lines on the intake when they did the rest of the engine work...I'm not sure yet.
After the engine work's done, I'll be putting together a 2 1/2" full exhaust, no cat, with a Magnaflow muffler. The battery will be moved into the back end on the passenger's side for better weight distribution, and I'll be using a Optima Yellow-top in a battery box for safety and reliability's sake.
I'm also putting on KYB Gas-A-Just race shocks from my old Impulse. If there's anything you can do for your beloved car, replace the shocks. Get the good KYB's. You'll love it even more afterwards.

The interior needs to be thoroughly cleaned and fixed up...multiple things are missing or broken, but I'm sure I can get it together. It's got 140K miles on the clock and full guages in the dash.

The stereo will consist of an MP3 CD deck(dunno what brand quite yet), some 4" Blaupunkt fronts and Sony rear speakers, a pair of 12's and a Legacy amp, but nothing is ready quite yet. These front door pods are kind of unique...the car came with these speakers in it already, but no deck.
