The intent of restoring this 1974 Chevrolet Monza Nascar Speedway Modified was very similar to the criteria that GRM used in creating the ultimate track car challenge.
So let's break it down. This is a TRACK CAR, not a street car, a BAD ASSED ROAD RACING TRACK CAR! It weighs in at 2550 pounds, and has 900 ft. pounds of torque, it has, a big bunch of cubic inches, and, it don't need NO STINKIN' TURBO to get it done. It runs under two minutes at the Glen, and close to 200 MPH at Road America. It's power to weight ratio rivals most Can-Am cars, it's weight balance is 45% front and 55% rear, with a center of gravity and roll center better than the latest Trans-Am cars.
When we talk about OUTSTANDING ENGINEERING the 2X3" box tube underslung chassis and Nascar style roll cage, developed since the seventies, is SIMPLISTIC, LIGHT, RIGID , and SAFE. The DURIBILITY of these PURPOSE BUILT stock car components gets proven day in and day out, year after year, on short tracks and speedways across the country. It's so EASY TO DRIVE with a power rack and pinion, VERY FORGIVING with it's 13" and 14" wide, old school aspect ratio slicks and VERY EASY TO SET UP, with a quick change differential.
When you start talking brains over braun, I looked at it differently and asked why not BRAINS AND BRAUN. I mentioned saftey before, that had to be first. Not only is it strong, but, the components were designed and built to carry 30% more weight, they're very RELIABLE thus LOW MAINTENENCE. The dry sumped Big Block, puts out unbelievable power at 2000-5500 RPM and with no need for expensive rebuilds every season, my OPERATING BUDGET consists of only, oil, fuel and tires.
The big brainy stuff comes in when we talk BUILD COSTS. The car was built with flea market parts at flea market prices, that's right 25 cents on the dollar. I paid $1200.00 for a rolling chassis, $300.00 for a donor car for the body, $800.00 for the fibergalss panels, a used trans at $800.00, $500.00 or so for misc. parts, new wheels at $700.00, a new "state of the art" seat for $900.00 and a fresh re-built engine for $8000.00. Not counting my after work labor, I have less than $15,000.00 in this car. (I have a second small block version with less than $4000.00 invested).
It's so much FUN that you would wish it to be a DAILY DRIVER. It is so cost effective in fact we are building just that, a third car for the road. We've $tolen another roller from the twenty or so ex-race cars we located and are builing a milder version with a 660 HP pump gas Big Block and a chopped and heavily channeled (it will sit 38" high), 1934 Chevy 2 door sedan. So how is that for EASE OF DUPLICATION, and yes, we can build one for you, with any engine and body configuration.
SO BRING IT ON! 'Cause we've already created the solution to the ULTIMATE TRACK CAR CHALLENGE!
