Car history:
SPL road race Nissan 300ZX was Kuah's HPDE car and has served as a test platform for the SPL suspension products over the years. Current specs are listed on next page.
The SPL 300ZX attended its first competition event ever at the Redline time attack event at California Speedway (Feb 2007). The car was drive by our local customer and friend, Ryan Schimsk, and came in 2nd place in Modified RWD and 3rd overall in Modified. The second event we attended was the Redline time attack at Buttonwillow (Apr 2007). This time the car was driven by pro drifter (and former IRL, Grand Am, ALMS driver) Ryan Hampton. The SPL 300ZX came in 2nd overall in Modified, clocking in at 1:55, slightly less than 1sec slower than the Factor-X NSX.
We are pleased to be a podium finisher from the get go, but the SPL 300ZX will continue to evolve, with a full cage, stiffer coilover setup, and dry sump system planned for future events. The SPL 300ZX was built, tuned and setup by Kuah@SPL, largely without actual sponsorship so far, although we would like to thank our friends at Forge Motorsports, Specialty Z, Performance Motorsports, and Endless USA for their help. Also Kuah would like to thank Sean Farrah and Corey Elliott for loaning parts when things break, and wrenching to the last minute to get the car ready for the events.
