The SPL time attack 300ZX finished 4th in class (Shop Varsity) and 5th overall at the Grassroots Motorsports Ultimate Track Car Challenge 2007 held at VIR.
The car underwent several major changes just before the 2007 event: a full welded in roll cage installed less than a month prior, Zeal Super Function coilovers, reduced weight and Pirelli slicks. The changes made the car a full Unlimited class time attack car. The car had little to no testing prior to the event to dial in the new setup.
Due to a ruptured boost hose, the SPL 300ZX was only running 13psi of boost at the 2007 UTCC event, reducing power output to an estimated low 400rwhp. We were possibly the heaviest (at ~2900lbs) and lowest hp car within the top 6 finishers.
Due to a bad run of luck and organization that day, the SPL 300ZX did not run the practice session and the final session. Running only 2 sessions that day, the SPL 300ZX ran a best lap of 1:35.9 piloted by Ryan Hampton; trailing only the FIA GT3 class Viper Competition Coupe, a modified 680hp Mosler MT900, and a modified 630rwhp Noble M400 in our class.
