A Gift From Uncle Hank:
I had been trying to get my Uncle Hank to sell me this car for about 15 years. You see, in 1987, I bought a new Monte Carlo SL and my girlfriend ( now my wife ) drove it all the time. Then one Sunday morning I decided to drive it to work instead of going racing motocross on my 3 wheeler. So the car was loaded the night before with my tools and extra tires as well as all my riding gear ready to do the normal Sunday race thing. But I went to work and someone needed the car more than I did so they took it. They did find it but it had been striped clean. So from then on I always wanted my Uncle's car 1983 Monte Carlo. He only drove the car in the summer and stored it inside all the time. Residing in Centurburg, Ohio, the car never saw any salt or dirt roads. Every year we would drive down at least twice to visit the family and I would always ask Uncle Hank to sell me the car. His reply was always the same "I'm taking good care of your car for you ".
In the Spring of 2006, a phone call came from Uncle Hank asking me to come and get the Monte Carlo. Seems it was in the way and he could not get his new car in the garage. I asked him how much he wanted and he said it was mine for free just like he always said, "...he was taking good care of my car." Now his main car is his 1982 Chevy Chevette which he just loves, but it is getting rusty. He also just bought a Dodge Caliber for Aunt Nelllie. He said I should get a trailer to take the car home so my wife would not have to drive a vehicle home from Ohio. After loading the car onto the trailer I could not believe how clean the car was.
When I got the car home I needed to replace the front brakes which I realised soon after driving it a few times. Next, I replaced the head liner. The car is great and our faimly loves to go cruising in it. While getting ready to go to the Woodward Dream cruise I had a check engine light come on so that scrapped the day. Soon I hope to have it back on the road after replacing the steering box and getting the check engine light addressed.
