Hi this is my 1978 Ford Transit Sundowner van the Sundowner model is unique to Australia and was a limited edition along with the Falcon and Escort Sundowner vans
This van left the ford factory with a 4.1L (250ci) inline 6cyl cross flow engine unlike the Euro spec vans that had V4 engines
To date the mods on my van are: Vented discs and 4 piston calpers, fitment of a 3.00:1 ford 9" diff and very large finned drum brakes soon to be vented discs, recolour the dash and fit a sports instument cluster, lowered suspension, power steering, and a 460ci engine
I found my van on ebay whilst looking at parts for my race car and decided it would make the perfect race car hauler
It was in need of alot of work but i felt sorry for it and dragged it home
One of the first mods i did was swap the standard front solid discs and 2 piston calipers to vented discs and 4 piston calipers
It also had the PCD changed from 5x160mm to 5x114.3mm to give me a wider choice of wheels
Ever seen gorillas in the mist? Well my version is bigger meaner and a lot more wild, Its Transits in the mist I wanted to know if she'd smoke up and well what do you know :)
hehe youd never know
New 100 spoke wheels
Now things start to get serious 460 cubes of FORDS finest cast iron
Theres no way it would fit in the engine bay so thank god for angle grinders
