1988 GTA... Whitelightning Article

It's been garaged during winters and unleashed only in the summer. It has 44,500 original miles on the L98 5.7lt. The previous owner said they kept it on jack stands in the climate controlled garage during winter months. I got to back it out of that garage and bring it home.

After realizing I had a leaky injector and an intake manifold gasket. I felt it was my mission to put her back to original, plus a few respectful upgrades. Oh yeah..and CLEAN!!

I have decided to go with the Hooker Super Competion Headers w/ emission lines (HOK-2055-1HKR). They are the best choice only after SLP's are No Longer Available(6/1/07). This complete exhaust system from headers, Dynomax Super Converter, and cat-back system will require some saveing up. If you have an opinion on the cat-back. Please vote in the poll above.

I tried 50psi with the fuel pressure and the car would quickly slow down at the end of third gear. Thanks to a web search. ThirdGen.org had the answer. Simple; back off the pressure to 46psi, reduce the spark plug heat range(colder, due to the timeing advance) and increase the octane level.

Here's a list of the goods:
SLP - Cold Air Intake
SLP - Throttle Body Air Foil
Hypertech - Thermomaster Chip
Coil, Cap and Rotor,
Cool Fan Switch,
160* Thermostat
Optima - Red Top Battery
MSD - 8.5mm Super Conductor Plug Wires (Black)
ACDelco - R45TS Spark Plugs
BBK - Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator set at 46psi
Accel - Fuel Pressure Gauge, Fuel rail mount
Edelbrock - 255 liter/hr. (67 gph) In-Tank Electric Fuel Pump
Cruzin Performance - Professional Injector Cleaning
ThirdGen.org - Throttle Body Coolant Bypass

I got the Vinyl Protect-A-Mats from Carmotosports.com linked to GTA Source Page. They are exactly what I needed to preserve this interior. It still has the New Car Smell.

After searching for a good replacement for the factory tape deck, I decided on the new Alpine CDA-9885. With the PER SWI-AKJC Audio Control Interface installed, I can use the factory controls on the steering wheel. Also hidden under the dash and behind the sail panels are pairs of Kicker KS Series speakers. The Sony XM-4S amp, located in the lower cargo area, powers them all. A Bazooka BTA6100 has the Base covered.

It has the Cargo Area Screen

Car Motorsports -Custom Fit GM Licensed Car Cover with white GTA embroidered on front nose and on matching storage bag.

The GTA came with the WS6 Performance Suspension. The WS6 features included 36 mm front and 24 mm rear stabilizer bars, special Delco gas-charged shock absorbers, specially- tuned coil springs (96 lb./inch front and 23 lb./inch rear), four-wheel disc brakes, limited-slip rear axle, and a special 12.7:1 ratio steering box. The wheels are 16"x 8" gold, diamond-spoke aluminum specific to the GTA. The hub caps are black and have a "WS6" emblem in the center. The wheels are unique in that the rear ones are offset 16mm due to the rear axle width; the front rims have zero offset.
