My 1966 Mustang Project
Belonged to my friends brother. It sat for about 3 years, the "289" sitting outside and his built 302 inside waiting to get finished. He needed funds for school and space in the garage and decided to sell it. He called me, because i saw it once before and asked about buying it, after bout 3 weeks we came to the price of $2000. After dealing with much frustration due to having a lean on the title it is finally ours. Now the fun part...
Updates:
8/4/07 - Have the crank installed, turned 10/10, looks awesome, pictures and more additions to it soon.
7/37/07 - Called the machine shop and the block is bored .40 over with forged pistons and rods installed, forged crank on order, and the rest of the odds and ends are waiting to be installed, block will be together in less than a week. Then body work to deal with. Also pulled out the entire interior and found that both front floor pans are rusted and seats are shot, as well as dash, going to go through major interior resto as well.
7/19/07 - Pulled out the seats and carpet and found that both front floor pans are rusted out to bad. No update on engine, it has been tore down and taken to a machine shop for cleaning and boring.
I found out that the 289 that he pulled out is actually a 302 upon tear down, and that it was running 2 different set of heads, rockers and push rods. Also discovered that something had once exploded in the oil pan as there was chunks of crap in the oil sending unit. However the newly discovered 302 block is torn apart and being sent off for inspection, cleaning and everything else. Were also trying to decided what to do about heads, i got 2 more sets laying around or we can get buy new ones.
Looks good for being just a shell huh.
The inside needs some work.
The previous was working on the audio set up a little bit, he also promised to finish the setup when we got it running, for free.
2 Transmission, the blue form a 91 5.0, the grey the stock one.
The 302 from the 91 the previous owner was building up to put in.
The his is the "289" or what i was told was a 289, pulled it apart and found it was a 302 HAHA. So much for matching numbers.
