3400 swap now FINISHED!!!!
This swap took me about 2 months to complete. Both a lack of funds, parts not coming in on time, and spring break about doubled the time it took to finish the project.
The total cost was right around $1800. The engine and accessories were $500, the bully stage 2 clutch was another $550, the custom front mount $150, the custom burned chip $150, flywheel $50, paint $30, tools $50,energy suspension bushings $80 other misc parts $200. All of the time and money was more than worth it the first time I floored her! Boy does this 2500 lb car fly with 200 hp!
While I had the engine out, I repainted the engine bay black and I cleaned and painted the entire subframe. The all new poly suspension bits really tightened up the handling of the car. I also remove the non-working AC (evap core, condensor, dryer, and compressor) as well as the cruise control and all of the wiring. This saved me approx 85 pounds.
I have done a bit of work to the stock 3400. Here is a small list of things I have done.
* 2001 3400 from an Alero
* FDP 62mm billet TB
* Crank scraper
* Taylor 8mm Wires
* Bosh platinum plugs
* K&N WAI air intake
* TB bypass
* FFP Underdrive pulley
* FFP custom 3400 Chip
* JBP Short throw shifter
* Bully stage 3 clutch and pressure plate
* sixshooter's 3400 mount
* Magnaflow SS muffler
* Magnaflow high flow cat
* Synthetic motor oil
* Radiator Fan override switch
* repainted the engine bay and subframe
* Hypertech 180* thermostat
* Header wrap on manifolds and downpipe
* Rodney Dickman's Shift select shaft
* Rodney Dickman's Shifter rebuild kit
* Poly filled trans mount
* MSD coils
With these mods, I have managed a best 1/4 time of 14.66 @ 93mph, see page 5 for more information.

Here is a picture of the cleaned and assembled sub frame. I had the sway bar on backwards and I changed it around after I took this picture.

This is the motor being dropped into the car. It went in smoothly because I didn't have the clutch so I had to install the tranny afterwards.

On the last week of Feb I drove 2 hours to pick up an engine that was pulled out of an Alero with 33K miles. The 3400 was only $400!

Here it is strapped down in the truck. It wasnt going to move around at all with all of those straps!

This is the motor just sitting in my garage, waiting to be installed.
The upper intake manifold torn off.
Getting ready to paint the upper intake manifold.
This is how the Upper intake manifold turned out after about 2-3 hours of work.
For information about how to make the intake that I have on my car, visit the how-to section at: http:www.v6z24.com This is a wonderful site and a great resource for the second generation J-Bodys. I am known at Brad91Z on the site!

This picture is from when I just bought the car. 157,000 miles and it looks like it was never cleaned.

The engine had dropped 2 valves so I had to rebuild the top end. After 4 days of hard work she was running again. Now the motor looks a lot better!
