MY CELICA GT-S

zjr360's 1983 Toyota Celica

My name is Zach, and this is my '83 Celica. I have a 2.25 straightpiped exhaust with a magnaflow wide-open muffler, and a custom built cold-air intake with a K&N filter. Here soon i will be rebuilding a 22R-E, bored .20 over, with 8.5:1 compression pistons, a stroker kit, port and polished race head, custom built header, high flow throttle body, and a turbo.

besides the motor, i am going to put adjustable coilovers, 1 inch drop springs, and slotted brakes all around, so i can compete in autocross. i will probably get the heavier-duty rear diff. from a Supra. that way i can get disc brakes.

I am looking to get between 250 and 275 horsepower at the wheels, and have it run deep into the 13's. this should be done befor the next race season.

this is during body work and paint...

Before we painted my car we had to knock out a few rust spots and put in patch panels. That was the most tedious part of the whole process.

This is during the body work... What a mess!

and this is after we got done at the paint booth...

Nice job on your Celica..it's nice to see people rebuilding the older Celis :) I am part of a site called TuneMyToyota.com which is for performance Toyotas and I think you would like it. My name is Rebel, I'm a moderator on there and look forward to seeing you join.

Hey Zach, just wondering if you definitely decided on boost yet? I should mention to you that a standalone ECU is a MUST with these cars, even on a low boost application of 5lbs. The stock ECU is not tunable, and the fuel maps really suck. Look into www.diyautotune.com and get yourself a wide band O2 sensor, and I strongly suggest you consider building or buying MegaSquirt. Haven't seen you on the forum. Did you join yet?
