FRIENDS' RIDES
So as to demonstrate that FD owners are not the import world's snobby, self-indulgent pricks, I'm posting shots of my friends' rides as I have time to get good pictures of them.
David's '05 Mazda Miata. You'd have to be pretty homophobic not to go for a spin in David's car. With a Hard Dog roll bar and a two-way radio clunking around in the cupholder, those in the know can see that this car was designed and is used for sphincter-tightening canyon runs. Dave's a great driver and I have a lot of respect for what he is capable of in this car. While the Miata lacks in power, it shines in handling. With rare exception, this is the closest thing to a road-going go-kart most people will ever enjoy.
Jason's '97 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T Spyder. Jay's car is great because it is probably the easiest car I've ever worked on, barring my old Nissan S13, of course. The formula is simple: big turbo, big injectors, ECU to control it. I am envious of Jay's bulletproof 4G63-T, but could do without weight and drivetrain. As a means of alleviating these problems, Jay is planning an AWD conversion (once he finds a wrecked GSX) and stupid power levels in the neighborhood of 350-400whp. There are, of course, many bugs to be worked out, but I'm sure we can do it. With a platform like the DSM, you pretty much start believing you can do almost anything.
Carlos's '94 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL. Carlos, because he like heavy, luxurious highway cruisers, really likes this car. I have to admit, I like it, too. It's super comfortable and surprisingly reliable, nevermind the hot body lines. Good examples of later-model 3000GTs are increasingly rare, but as long as Los keeps this one up, they're always be one racing around town. His current projects are an upgraded sound system and a reworked suspension. He's planning on getting a newer car pretty soon; I can only hope he doesn't use this baby as a down payment!
