Kay, well this was my brilliant black 1997 MX-5 Miata, it is no longer with us, but the engine lives on. Take a look at my new 96 montego blue miata(#2).

This is my Brilliant Black 1997 Mazda MX-5 Miata. The car belonged to my dad, and it got a little uncomfortable for him, so it got passed down to me, which was exactly what I wanted! As I was thinking of getting one anyways. I received the car completely stock, but I am changing that.

I absolutely love the little MX-5, and it feels different fron any other car that I have driven. I live in Malibu, CA where there are many canyons that suit the Miata perfectly. Just put the top down and keep the revs up and it's a perfect day.

My first and only changes so far are my new Kosei K1 racing wheels and amazingly sticky Kumho Ecsta MX tires. They ride well, and grip better then anything I have ever driven. I haven't had a chance to drive them in the wet, but dry grip is much more important to me anyways. Along with a set of Tein SS coilovers that I absolutely love!

4/14/07 I just got the Tein SS coilovers on today and they make an enormous difference. At first I was disappointed with the ride quality, assuming that the shop where I got them installed (I know I should have tried to do it myself, but with NO mechanical experience on cars, I decided to leave my $1,000 upgrade to the professionals) set the dampening to the factory recommended 8 clicks from hard, but the shop had set them to some really odd settings, all of which were over 12 clicks away from hard, and one corner was 16 clicks away! I fixed the settings and tried 8 from hard front and 9 from hard rear and it made a huge improvement in the ride and stability.

If I have measured correctly them correctly (center of hub to wheel arch), then the coilovers are set to 12" front and 13" rear, which looks amazing, but I may want to raise them a little in the future as they are really low.

But overall after only one day, I am already blown away with these shocks. The car has so much less roll through the corners, and is dampened so much better than with me tired old stock 100,000 mile shocks and springs. They inspire confidence and simply add more the already great driving experience of the miata.

*ON ORDER! (installed now minus roll bar)
-I have a Hard Dog Sport Dual roll bar on its way for safety and some rigidity, along with a FM 1" front sway bar(less oversteer), K&N panel filter, allong with new plugs and plug wires. The waiting is killing me!

Pretty much stock interior so far, I have removed some of the foam from the seat for more legroom.

I have great plans for the car, and hope to end up going turbo this coming summer, or next year.

Thanks for the comment. I cant really blame Mazda, since it was probably my fault. When I opened the head gasket package, the staple probably fell perfectly between 2 layers. Just my luck! Just for a bit of info on boosting a Miata, Bell engineering is about to release a cheaper version of their turbo kit(s), one thats just a manifold, turbo and downpipe, leaving the little stuff for the buyer, and another one using a chinese made turbo. They have done 10 months of testing in house on it, and its holding up. I have seen many people have good success with them. I will probably do that route just to be a test subject, and its probably going to be about $500 cheaper than their BEGi-S kit, which should hopefully put it at around $1500. Bell works with you on their kits to give you just what you want. More DIY or more fully built with nothing left out. Not trying to plug Bell as much as it seems, just giving you a better route than FM kit (just my opinion, nothing wrong with FM). Good luck on your build, I hope to have mine boosted within the next few months.

RE: spacers Well, going from the koseis with a 38mm offset to the spacers adding another 25mm, I can say that it's harder to get the car to kick the ass end out, so I guess you could say it handles better. I always hear about when you alter the suspension geometry/scrub radius the handling suffers but I did everything at once (spacers/coilovers/all new suspension pieces/de-power the rack) and it seems FINE to me! (A Q, did the spacers help the handling at all? Or did they just contribute to a better stance? I'm considering some on my car, but I may just lower it a bit more instead of any spacers because the 225 will need all of the space they can get.)

Our cars are pretty similar lol!! Our fenders are definitely twins. What size Ecsta are you running? 205/50/15?
