The family and I lived in England for a year in '97-'98. That's where I saw a lot of Formula One racing coverage on TV and in particular I really enjoyed watching Michael Schumacher race in his red Ferrari. I'd kill to have one of these awesome machines but there's a problem....I don't have the dough....and even if I did, I'd have no idea where to get one.....and even if I got one where the heck would I drive it. So recently I decided to do the next best thing.....get an affordable scale model...so I trolled around and found this really awesome 1:8 scale model from Lego. Yeah, I know....you're rolling your eyes....but this isn't your daddy's Lego kit. It's freakin' awesome....and very realistic. I got one and couldn't wait to come home every night and get working on assembling it. It has 1246 pieces and has a very authentic steering mechanism that turns the front tires, front and rear suspension, engine with pistons that move, a working differential with several gears, 3" wide tires....the list goes on.
As you might imagine I was the object of ridicule for my kids who thought I was a real nerd to be playing with Lego...but guess what...once they got to see and do what I was doing they couldn't keep their hands off it....hehehe...
24" long 1:8 scale model Parts is parts....all 1246 of them...in a pretty much random collection of plastic bags It took me a whole 2 hours to make sure I had all the parts and to collect like parts and lay them all out on a sheet on the floor. You can't really do this project without taking the time to do this step.
View from below
The core pieces are together now....ready for the rest of the body kit and other details...
